Job description

Overview:
Candidates must be available to work the designated schedule of Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., in order to be considered for this role. Additionally, applicants must be able to participate in onsite training from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. This position requires the successful completion of a six-month onsite training period prior to transitioning to a fully remote role. Once remote, employees are expected to be present in the office at least once per month. The specific work schedule will be determined at the discretion of the manager. The designated work location for this position is 3700 Corporate Drive, Ste 230, Columbus, OH 43231

Job Description Summary:
Schedules numerous clinic outpatient appointments, obtains accurate demographic, insurance, and physician information, and pre-registers outpatients in a timely and accurate manner.
Job Description:
Essential Functions:
  • Schedules patients for designated outpatient services and coordinates changes in appointments through canceling or re-scheduling.
  • Works referral lists and contacts patients for appointments. Collaborates and communicates with departments and physicians whose services are scheduled.
  • Interviews and registers designated patients in the computer system. Pre-registers patients scheduled for less than 30 days in the future.
  • Obtains accurate demographics, insurances, and physician information during registration.
  • Screens registrations and customer data to ensure insurance eligibility and pre-certification and that physician referral requirements are met.
  • Assists in identifying self-pay patients and refers them to financial assistance, instructing on requirements.
  • Assists in the training and development of new employees.

Skills:
  • Ability to understand, retain, learn, and problem solve complex and quickly changing information with minimal supervision. Must be able to multi-task and handle various priorities in a flexible, rapidly changing environment.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and the impact of managed care trends on hospital operations, preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with bilingual abilities a plus. Must have excellent customer service skills with the ability to relate to diverse age and demographic backgrounds.
  • Ability to function as a team member responsible for staffing operational hours, collaborating in a respectful way, and contributing to the overall success of the team.

Experience:
  • Four years of experience in customer service and registration or admitting areas, required.
  • Keyboarding, typing, and data entry skills, required. Computerized scheduling experience, preferred.
  • One year of experience working on a mainframe computer, required.
  • Experience using Outlook, Word, and Excel.
