Position Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer supports the Assembly floor by improving production processes, driving quality performance, and building the training and skills-tracking systems that help the team perform consistently. This role works hands-on with Assembly Supervisors and staff to close gaps in build process, workflow, and equipment reliability, while partnering with Engineering and Supply Chain to correct quality escapes at the source.

The Manufacturing Engineer reports to the Operations Manager and also serves as Safety Coordinator for Assembly, Operations, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain. This is a hands-on role for someone who is energized by getting close to the details of the shop floor and turning them into repeatable, documented process.

Core Responsibilities

Production Support

  • Collaborate with the Assembly Supervisors to analyze production processes, schedules, methods, and procedures to identify opportunities to close gaps and improve build times for all systems
  • Analyze and plan workflow, equipment placement, and space requirements to improve manufacturing efficiency
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance and repair services, and ensure machinery manufacturers' procedures and instructions are followed in shop activity
  • Maintain calibration records and schedule periodic calibration for tools as required
  • Drive correction of assembly drawings and schematics through Engineering to reduce waste and error in the assembly process
  • Act as the primary point of contact for Lean Manufacturing activities in Assembly

Quality Support

  • Collect part quality escape data and drive correction through Supply Chain
  • Create, document, and implement test plans for each system type to ensure high-quality production output
  • Analyze quality test plan results to produce corrective action plans for escapes, and report on quality performance to management

Organizational Tracking and Development

  • Collaborate with the Assembly Lead to create a multi-tiered skills tracking matrix and a training plan to achieve targeted skill development levels, including basic skills and machine-specific build competencies
  • Collaborate with the Assembly Lead to develop training strategy and individual training plans to increase the performance of the assembly staff
  • Document and revise assembly procedures to facilitate the training of new hires and skill development of current staff
  • Act as Safety Coordinator for Assembly, Operations, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain

Key Performance Indicators

  • Assembly build-time reduction against established time standards
  • Part and process quality escape rate
  • On-time completion of the assembly skills matrix and training plan
  • Calibration compliance rate for production tools and equipment
  • Safety incident and near-miss rate across Assembly, Operations, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain

Qualifications

Required

  • 4-year degree from an accredited school in an Engineering discipline
  • Coursework in Industrial Engineering and/or Industrial Hygiene
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and practices
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Ability to read and create drawings and schematics
  • Ability to turn stream-of-consciousness inputs into coherent and effective work instructions and aids

Preferred

  • Experience in capital equipment manufacturing, food equipment, or similarly regulated custom manufacturing environments
  • Familiarity with Acumatica or similar ERP platforms
  • Exposure to formal quality systems (e.g., calibration programs, test plan development, corrective action processes)
  • Prior experience building or maintaining a skills matrix or structured training program
