Job description

Behavioral Healthcare Provider

The Behavioral Healthcare Provider develops, coordinates, implements, and provides interdisciplinary services related to behavioral and biomedical science. This role involves the application of knowledge and techniques to prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation. Within the scope of practice, the provider performs psychosocial interventions with clients. Individual, family, or group interventions may include counseling, testing, and education of the client. The provider develops intervention goals and objectives designed to educate and resolve clients' problems in functioning. Participation in establishing, implementing, and evaluating treatment system goals and objectives is required. The provider interviews clients and their families to establish case goals and objectives. Assessment of clients is performed to determine specific intervention techniques and monitor responses to treatment. Feedback is provided on the effectiveness of prescribed treatments. The provider evaluates cases of lower-level behavioral healthcare providers and assesses client progress from prescribed treatment plans. Necessary documentation is maintained to satisfy requirements of federal, state, and local agencies. Data preparation includes social histories, admission/aftercare summaries, and court documents. Active participation on treatment teams and program development teams is expected. Attendance at training meetings, intradepartmental meetings, and court hearings is required. Establishing and maintaining working relationships with other facilities and agencies is essential for coordination of referrals and follow-up services. Knowledge of departmental regulations, policies, and procedures is required. Ability to counsel on sensitive matters and recognize unusual or threatening conditions is necessary. Problem-solving skills in situations with multiple variables are essential. Understanding and applying social work theories, principles, and techniques is part of the role. Unusual working conditions may apply. This may include unusual work schedules or arrangements. Exposure to clients who may be potentially violent could occur. The provider may be exposed to unusual noise, odors, or contagious diseases. Travel to community sites may be required.
