Job description

ABOUT THE TEAM

We are seeking a highly experienced and versatile Senior Systems Administrator to join our Infrastructure Operations Team. Comprising network, systems, and GNOC analysts and administrators, this cross-functional team is pivotal in ensuring the seamless operation, continuous improvement, and robust maintenance of Anduril's critical infrastructure.
As a core member of this team, you will significantly contribute across four major functions: Monitoring and Incident Management, Deployment, Operations, and Tooling / Automation. Your expertise will be instrumental in the deployment, maintenance, and resilient support of high-performance IT infrastructure that underpins our global operations and innovative technologies. You will navigate complex environments spanning on-premises data centers, corporate office environments, remote test site facilities, and leading cloud platforms, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability across our critical systems. This position demands a well-rounded expert capable of tackling an assortment of issues, from low-level network services to high-level system optimization, leveraging strong scripting and automation skills to drive efficiency and innovation within operations.
WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Oversee, deploy, and maintain highly available and scalable IT infrastructure across diverse environments, including on-premises data centers (VMware, physical servers) and leading public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP). This includes strategic planning for hardware deployments to new sites and offices, managing infrastructure inventory, and collaborating with engineering and telecom/LV teams to scope and plan hardware needs.
  • Administer, optimize, and secure both Linux (e.g., RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu) and Windows Server operating systems, ensuring system stability, advanced security hardening, performance tuning, and adherence to configuration standards.
  • Manage and maintain enterprise virtualization platforms, specifically VMware vSphere/ESXi, including host management, VM provisioning, and resource optimization. Experience with VDI and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
  • Drive the creation and implementation of automation scripts and tools using multiple languages such as Terraform, Python, Bash/Shell, PowerShell, and Go. You will lead efforts to streamline operations, enforce configurations, build integrations between operational tools, create new utility tools, and evaluate platforms for monitoring, inventory, and ticketing, acting as a liaison to ensure operational methodologies align with broader Infrastructure automation strategies.
  • Expertly configure, troubleshoot, and maintain essential network services including DNS, DHCP, NTP, Syslog, SNMP, and RADIUS to ensure seamless network operations, centralized management, and robust security.
  • Implement and maintain PXE-boot and Kickstart environments for efficient, standardized, and rapid deployment of server operating systems, ensuring consistency and scalability across the organization. This includes designing and refining deployment processes for operational efficiency.
  • Implement, manage, and continuously refine comprehensive backup solutions and disaster recovery strategies, ensuring data integrity, availability, and business continuity for critical systems and applications. Your role is pivotal in reducing the operational burden on engineering by proactively triaging and resolving complex service requests, escalating strategically when required, and providing continuous operational support.
  • Develop, operate, and continuously iterate on robust monitoring and alerting solutions. You will lead the design and development of incident management pipelines for communication and collaboration during outages, conduct thorough post-mortems for critical incidents, produce incident metric data, and manage on-call solutions (e.g., PagerDuty), providing expert initial triage and timely escalation.
  • Leverage and contribute to IaC tools such as Terraform and Ansible for consistent, repeatable infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and rigorous change control.
  • Actively implement and enforce robust security controls, best practices, and compliance measures across all managed systems and services, including vulnerability management and incident response.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, security, and development teams to support application deployments, integrate new technologies, and address complex operational challenges. You will author and maintain detailed documentation for system configurations, processes, architectural diagrams, runbooks, and advanced troubleshooting guides (TSGs).
  • Stay current with the latest industry trends and emerging technologies, advocating for and implementing solutions that enhance our infrastructure capabilities and operational efficiency. Potentially mentor junior team members and share advanced technical knowledge.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to provide expert, timely support for critical infrastructure incidents, ensuring maximum uptime and rapid resolution.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of 4+ years of hands-on experience in a Senior Systems Administrator or equivalent role, managing complex, production-grade IT infrastructure.
  • Demonstrable expertise in administering Linux based (e.g., RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu) operating systems, including advanced troubleshooting, performance tuning, and security hardening.
  • Proven experience with enterprise virtualization platforms, specifically VMware vSphere/ESXi, including host management, VM provisioning, and resource optimization.
  • Solid experience with implementing, managing, and troubleshooting enterprise-grade backup solutions and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using multiple languages such as Python, PowerShell, Bash/Shell, and/or Go.
  • Extensive experience with public cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and on-premises data center environments.
  • Deep understanding and practical experience with core network services, including DNS, DHCP, NTP, Syslog, SNMP, RADIUS, and IP addressing/routing fundamentals.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining PXE-boot and Kickstart environments for automated server deployments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues across a diverse and integrated technology stack, often under pressure in dynamic environments.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), documentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and occasionally travel to remote sites for hardware installations/maintenance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with specific enterprise storage solutions (e.g., Pure Storage, VAST Data).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI).
  • Prior experience in a Zero Trust or highly secure, regulated environment.
  • Experience with database administration (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server).
