Landscape Construction Project Manager

Job Summary

Environmental Management Inc. (EMI) is seeking an experienced and highly organized Construction Project Manager to lead commercial landscape installation projects throughout the Columbus, Ohio market.

This role is responsible for overseeing all phases of landscape construction, from project planning and scheduling through final completion and customer acceptance. The Project Manager will collaborate closely with Superintendents, Foremen, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with strong technical landscape construction knowledge, exceptional communication skills, and a proven ability to manage multiple projects, crews, and priorities simultaneously.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to Superintendents, Foremen, Crew Leaders, and field personnel.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Assist with employee coaching, performance management, and workforce development initiatives.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and training efforts when needed.
  • Ensure crews have the resources, equipment, and support necessary to succeed.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of project management experience in commercial landscape construction, site development, civil construction, or a related field.
  • Proven experience managing multiple landscape construction projects simultaneously.
  • Strong knowledge of hardscape installation, soft scaping, drainage systems, grading, site preparation, and irrigation installation.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and manage construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and project schedules.
  • Experience managing project budgets, forecasting labor and material costs, and maintaining profitability goals.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Excellent communication and client relationship management abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management software such as Aspire, LMN, Procore, or similar platforms.
  • Valid Ohio driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.

Certificates & Licenses

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Construction Management, Landscape Construction, Horticulture, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • OSHA 30 Certification preferred or willingness to obtain within the first 6 months of employment.
  • NALP, CLIA, ONLA, or other industry-recognized certifications preferred.
  • Construction Systems Management coursework or certification is a plus.

Additional Duties

Add these responsibilities to strengthen the PM role:

  • Review project profitability and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
  • Manage project schedules and proactively address delays.
  • Approve subcontractorโ€™s work and ensure compliance with contract requirements.
  • Participate in project estimating, budgeting, and pre-construction planning activities.
  • Prepare and manage change orders, RFIs, and project closeout documentation.
  • Conduct project turnover meetings and final client walkthroughs.
  • Monitor project costs and ensure alignment with budget targets and company goals.
