Job description

Join Hamilton Tanks as our Surface Preparation Specialist

Help us deliver durable, high-quality steel tanks by preparing every surface to exact standards using abrasive blasting media.

What you will impact
  • Surface integrity: remove scale, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt from steel tanks
  • Finish quality: achieve specified profiles and verify conformance to requirements
  • Safety and uptime: set, monitor, and maintain blast systems for consistent, safe performance
Key responsibilities
  • Clean products to remove grease and dirt before blasting
  • Load specified grades of sand, grit, or steel shot into blast hoppers
  • Inspect, start, and maintain blast delivery equipment; regulate pressures and media flow
  • Direct blast nozzles with precision; use scrapers, brushes, or abrasive papers when required
  • Examine finished material to ensure it meets quality specifications
  • Report directly to the Shop Supervisor
Physical requirements
  • Standing 8+ hours per day
  • Lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs
  • Pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs
  • Walking across varied surfaces (gravel, concrete, asphalt)
  • Frequent twisting, bending, and reaching (forward and overhead)
  • Ability to wear a respirator for over 4 hours daily
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Prior abrasive blasting or related experience (preferred)
  • Knowledge of field concepts, practices, and procedures, or willingness to train on new equipment/processes
  • Working knowledge of manual sand/grit blasting machines, materials, and methods
  • Familiarity with hand tools (chipping hammer, wire brush) and power tools (grinder, belt sander, palm sander)
  • Demonstrated safe work habits
  • Visual acuity with 70-degree peripheral perception
