The Ohio State University, College of Engineering, Department of Materials Science and Engineering is seeking a Research Lead Technician (Research Technician 4). This will be a Lead level Research Technician role within the College. This is a Technical Track role where the work will be achieved through individual efforts as well as participation through project teams. The work will be technical and operational in nature. The Manager will provide the Research Technician with clearly established guidelines and procedures.
Candidate will have the most advanced technical and operational experience with a Research and Laboratory Environment. Individual will serve as a Lead for other Research Technicians within the Department. Individual will have advanced knowledge of both processes and equipment within the laboratory and research spaces. Lead will provide training to both Undergraduate Students as well as incoming PhD Students. The Lead will train them on aseptic technique, scaffold fabrication, histology, imaging, animal husbandry and surgery etc. Individual will be able to anticipate, recognize and solve complex issues within the Research/Laboratory environment and be able to answer less experienced Researcher questions within the Department. Lead Technician will require less supervision than less experienced Researchers. Lead Technician will be able to log, communicate and analyze research data when applicable.
Specific Research Areas that the Research Lead Technician will be involved in will include working with graduate student and research engineers to fabricate and characterize biomaterials. They will be responsible for cell culture, immunohistochemistry, confocal imaging, and animal surgeries as required by the projects. In addition, they will perform literature searches and assist with manuscript writing and data analysis.
Required Education:
Bachelors Degree in Biomedical Engineering or related field
Desired Education:
Bachelors Degree in Materials Science Engineering or related field
Desired Experience:
Primary cell culture, scaffold fabrication, cryosectioning, immunostaining, large and small animal surgery
