Job description

Definition The Surveyor Manager position in Construction will manage our field survey crews and provide coordination between active CIP and Private construction projects, upcoming projects in the design phase and assist other City Departments with field survey work. Under general direction, is responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating the activities of a division's surveying and mapping unit and related staff; performs related duties as required. Examples of Work (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.) Directs the activities of a Division's surveying and mapping unit involved in field surveying, mapping, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), utility relocation, and City property rights acquisition issues; Directs the acquisition and/or disposition of City property and/or right-of-ways; Prepares data for Capitol Improvement Projects (CIP) and operating budgets; Confers with superiors, contractors, developers, and property owners regarding surveying, mapping, GIS, utility relocation, and City right-of-way issues; Coordinates the preparation and review of construction plans and reports for surveying, mapping, utility, and right-of-way issues; Coordinates the research of survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records required for property surveys; Initiates correspondence; prepares technical reports; maintains comprehensive files on surveying, mapping, GIS, utility, and right-of-way issues; maintains files of maps, record plats, and annexations; Represents the Division in special projects, and in meetings with state, county, and municipal organizations, consulting engineering groups, contractors, and area civic associations; Provides instruction to professional and sub-professional surveying, utility coordination, and mapping personnel; Stays abreast of current surveying, mapping, GIS, and right-of-way principles and procedures; Coordinates the work of surveying and mapping unit with engineering and architectural personnel, clients, and others concerned with projects; Supervises and trains personnel engaged in surveying and mapping activities, to include approving/disapproving leave requests, conducting performance evaluations, and/or initiating disciplinary actions; Attends professional surveying seminars, staff meetings, and policy planning sessions

Minimum Qualifications Possession of a valid State of Ohio certificate as a Professional Surveyor and three (3) years of experience supervising personnel engaged in surveying activities. Possession of a valid driver's license.
