Job Summary
We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer. This position is located in Columbus, OH.
The person selected for this entry level position will be responsible for the design, testing and integration of new systems as well as supporting the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of existing mechanical systems. This position is part of a team composed of engineers, technicians and support staff that provide design and maintenance support for electronic, mechanical and hydraulic
Responsibilities
  • Design, analyze, test, manufacture, and maintain mechanical components and systems.
  • Apply principles of engineering, physics, and material science. Core areas include:
    • Mechanics/Machine Design
    • Kinematics
    • Dynamics
    • Fluid Dynamics
    • Thermodynamics
    • Material Science/Strength of Materials
    • Structural
  • Utilize computer aided design software (SolidWorks and/or Creo).
  • Understand and apply the principles of machining and fabrication to designs.
  • Generate and interpret engineering schematic and drawing packages.
    • Apply principles of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
    • Produce technical drawing packages to support component and assembly fabrication.
  • Working closely with clients and associate contractors to define system requirements and integrate systems.
  • Generating and following installation and testing procedures within a stringent client quality assurance system.
  • Present design concepts and task status internally and to clients.
  • Prepare written documentation in the form of final reports, test plans, test reports, system manuals, operating instructions, assembly instructions, and maintenance instructions.
  • Develop task plan/schedules.
  • Working closely with the Battelle engineers located at various sites to design, fabricate and integrate new mechanical systems.
  • Maintaining, testing and troubleshooting existing mechanical systems both independently with minimal oversight or as part of an integrated technical team.
  • Support hands on laboratory work performing assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of systems.
  • Must be willing to travel and work temporary assignments for up to 120 days if needed.

Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and 2-5 years of experience in a related field.
  • Must be a US Citizen and must be willing to obtain a TS SCI clearance to perform job duties.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Educational background electronic/mechanical and hydraulic systems.
  • Curious attitude to develop in creative solutions, problem solving, and system troubleshooting.
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications (including Microsoft Project and Visio).
  • Ability to work within stringent client-driven quality assurance program.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Working knowledge of CAD/modeling programs (SolidWorks and/or Creo Pro/Engineer).
  • Desire hands on experiences in lab and shop work.
  • Willingness to get dirty during hands on work.
