Sargent Electric is a leading specialty contractor focused on electrical, instrumentation, wireless, utility, and low voltage systems. Founded in Pittsburgh in 1907, we operate from 8 locations across the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, delivering projects nationwide for our strategic customers.
We support the breadth of client needs — from routine 24/7 service and emergency restoration to their largest and most complex projects. Our proven safety record, technical depth, and longstanding client relationships have made us a partner of choice for Fortune 500 companies, leading general contractors, and EPC contractors.
We are seeking a talented Commercial/Industrial Electrical Estimator for our Columbus, Ohio operations. This role requires the ability to prepare complete and accurate estimates with minimal supervision while collaborating closely with our Estimating team.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
The Electrical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial and industrial electrical projects in support of preconstruction efforts. This role reviews drawings and specifications, performs detailed takeoffs, develops estimate plans, and collaborates with contractors, engineers, architects, and customers to ensure scope clarity and identify value engineering opportunities.
  • Attend pre-bid, scope review, and client meetings as needed.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate proposals using estimating software (Accubid preferred).
  • Develop a clear approach plan and timeline for each estimate.
  • Review, interpret, and apply project specifications in the preparation of estimates.
  • Accurately interpret drawings, documents, and electrical symbols (fire alarm, lighting, controls, receptacles, etc.).
  • Perform precise takeoffs using drawing scales and electronic scale devices.
  • Collaborate with general contractors, architects, engineers, and customers.
  • Identify discrepancies, errors, and value engineering opportunities.
  • Contribute to the training and development of junior estimators.
  • Support a strong, team-oriented work environment.
  • Assume any additional duties and responsibilities as delegated by Sargent Electric Management.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels.
  • Utilize innovative and effective leadership techniques to maximize employee and project performance

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an Electrical Estimator (commercial/industrial focus).
  • Experience with projects ranging from $100K–$100M.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial and industrial electrical systems; healthcare and mission critical experience preferred.
  • Ability to identify design issues and communicate RFIs effectively.
  • Skilled at preparing estimates at all design stages.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical materials, labor, and methods.
  • Proven ability to perform accurate, well-documented takeoffs.

WHY JOIN SARGENT ELECTRIC?
  • Competitive compensation based on experience
  • Established, growing company with a strong industry reputation
  • Collaborative, team-driven environment
  • Opportunity to directly impact project success and cost efficiency
