Job Description:

Position Summary

The GPR Technician is responsible for utilizing Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) technology and GPS-based layout tools to locate and document subsurface utilities and structures. This role plays a key part in site planning and verification for construction projects, producing accurate as-builts and assisting in pre-construction layout using systems such as Trimble and GPS.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Operate GPR equipment to locate underground utilities, structures, by interpreting anomalies via the results on the scanning equipment.

  • Perform site scans, layout proposed utilities, and generate accurate as-built reports and field markings through differing materials such as dirt, asphalt, concrete, etc.

  • Locate utilities with a locator wand utilizing tracer wires and other conductive materials in the ground.

  • Use Trimble, GPS layout, and other layout systems to perform construction layouts of existing utilities.

  • Interpret and record GPR scan results for reporting and coordination with project teams

  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot GPR and GPS equipment as needed

  • Work with Project teams and supervisors to plan and perform layout activities across multiple trades and differing conditions.

  • Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and participate in job hazard analyses (JHAs) and Morning Action Plans (MAPs)

  • Maintain equipment logs, project notes, and documentation

  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in operating GPR equipment and interpreting results

  • Familiarity with Trimble systems, GPS layout, and digital as-built documentation

  • High attention to detail and strong analytical skills

  • Able to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds

  • Comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and on active construction sites

  • Technology driven, Self-motivated and a problem solver.

  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with project teams and supervisors

  • Experience in commercial or civil construction preferred

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Minimum 2 years of experience with GPR operation and construction layout

  • Proficiency with GPS and Trimble layout systems required

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
