Description:

As the Distribution Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day distribution and delivery operations of a high-volume long-term care pharmacy. This position is responsible for coordinating delivery routes, drivers, courier services, staffing, technology, and distribution workflows to ensure medications and supplies are accurately prepared, efficiently routed, and delivered on time.

We are seeking a Distribution Manager to lead our distribution and delivery operations and help ensure medications reach our customers accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day distribution and delivery operations, including routing, staffing, courier performance, and overall logistics.
  • Develop and maintain efficient delivery routes based on geography, delivery schedules, stop volume, customer requirements, and available resources.
  • Coordinate in-house drivers, third-party couriers, and package delivery services to ensure timely and reliable deliveries.
  • Monitor delivery service levels and performance metrics, identify performance gaps, and implement corrective actions to improve timeliness, accuracy, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
  • Analyze delivery and operational data to identify trends, solve problems, and recommend improvements to staffing, routing, workflows, and overall distribution efficiency.
  • Supervise, train, coach, and develop distribution and delivery personnel while establishing clear expectations and holding team members accountable for performance.
  • Communicate daily with pharmacy leadership, production staff, drivers, couriers, and other departments regarding distribution priorities, staffing, delivery issues, and operational changes.
  • Provide regular operational updates, performance insights, and recommendations to the Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) and Director of Purchasing and Logistics.
  • Identify and resolve delivery and distribution problems quickly, including staffing shortages, missed deliveries, route issues, and unexpected changes in volume or priorities.
  • Coordinate with pharmacy production to ensure completed prescriptions are available and properly prepared for scheduled deliveries.
  • Sort, organize, and stage completed prescriptions while ensuring compliance with all handling and documentation procedures.
  • Utilize pharmacy operating systems, dispatching and routing software, Microsoft applications, handheld scanners, and other technology to track and manage distribution activities.
  • Prepare packages for delivery by printing packing lists, verifying accuracy, and completing additional distribution duties as needed.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvements to distribution processes, technology, and workflows.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Previous experience in logistics, distribution, transportation, delivery operations, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to efficiently learn and utilize multiple software systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, Teams, and related Microsoft tools.
  • Ability to utilize operational data and reports to identify problems and make informed decisions.
  • Ability to learn and effectively use pharmacy, dispatching, routing, tracking, and other operational software.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities, processes, technology, staffing levels, and business needs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across departments and with employees at all levels.
  • Ability to clearly communicate expectations, provide timely updates, and appropriately escalate operational issues.
  • Ability to identify the root cause of operational problems and implement effective solutions.
  • Ability to collaborate with the entire pharmacy team and work effectively across departments.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight while knowing when to seek assistance or escalate an issue.
  • Ability to correctly organize and manage large volumes of medications and packages.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to complete projects and operational initiatives in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to speak and write English

Preferred Skills/Abilities:

  • 2+ years of experience in logistics, distribution, transportation, delivery operations, or a related field.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience.
  • Experience coordinating multiple drivers, delivery routes, courier services, or geographic service areas.
  • Experience with routing, dispatch, tracking, or logistics software.
  • Experience using Excel or other tools to analyze operational data.
  • Pharmacy Technician Trainee License preferred but not required.
  • Experience in a commercial pharmacy, healthcare, long-term care, medical supply, or similar environment is a plus.
  • FedEx, UPS, or other package delivery experience is a plus.
