Job description

Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) - Specialty Fulfillment

Responsible for supporting the safe, efficient, and compliant preparation and distribution of medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Provides high-quality, patient-centered technical support services to ensure accurate medication preparation, packaging, and inventory control. In collaboration with pharmacists and other pharmacy technicians, assist in maintaining regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and service excellence across assigned practice areas. Maintains active registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy and PTCB/NHA national certification and fulfills all continuing education and competency requirements necessary to maintain registration throughout employment. Demonstrates professional conduct aligned with hospital and departmental mission, vision, and values.

This position functions to support all aspects of medication preparation and distribution services at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Specialty Fulfillment Pharmacy under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Duties include medication counting and packaging; preparing prescriptions for delivery to patients, assisting patients at our drive up window; contacting patients via phone, and other duties as permitted by Ohio Board of Pharmacy. The Pharmacy Technician II assists pharmacists in ensuring accurate medication dispensing and regulatory compliance in accordance with Ohio Board of Pharmacy rules, state and federal regulations, USP standards as applicable, and institutional policies. This role supports patient care while promoting a safe and efficient medication-use system. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate to the age of the patients served, including completing any mandatory education requirements. This position requires a valid driver's license and the ability to regularly lift and move 50 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age: 18 years.
  • Ohio Board of Pharmacy Certified Pharmacy Technician and active PTCB/NHA certification.

Ongoing:

  • Maintain Certified Pharmacy Technician status with Ohio Board of Pharmacy and active PTCB/NHA certification.
  • Continues to meet departmental competency requirements and pharmacy standards of employee conduct.
Additional Information:

This position works in person at our Ackerman Road site. Duties include but are not limited to: hand-counting tablets and capsules using a counting tray, packaging and labelling prescription vials, boxes and bags, ringing out prescriptions, making shipping labels, packaging prescriptions for delivery to patients, retrieving and stocking supplies, assisting patients via speaker at a drive-up window, placing medication orders on pharmacy shelves, and driving an OSU vehicle to other pharmacy locations.
