Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens offers world-class horticulture, art & nature-based exhibitions and educational programs. The 13-acre indoor and outdoor facilitysituated two miles from downtown Columbusfeatures glasshouses including the historic John F. Wolfe Palm House; botanical gardens including the Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation Childrens Garden and Scotts Miracle Gro-Foundation Community Garden Campus; and event venues. The Conservatory is home to the largest collection of Chihuly glass in a botanical garden and Light Raiment II by internationally renowned artist James Turrell. JOB SUMMARY

The Bartender provides top shelf service and an exceptional guest experience to Conservatory special event guests and general patrons. This position is responsible for setting up the bar, maintaining inventory, mixing and serving drinks, and providing drink recommendations. The Bartender constantly strives to exceed our guests' expectations.

Additional Information: This is a part time on-call position. As implied, on-call is an as-needed position, and hours vary throughout the year. Part-Time staff will receive complimentary Conservatory membership and participation in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS).

Compensation: $15/hour paid biweekly plus tips.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares alcohol and non-alcohol beverages for guests of special events and patrons of the Conservatory.

  • Interacts with guests, takes orders and serves drinks in a timely manner.

  • Assesses guests needs and preferences and makes recommendations.

  • Stays knowledgeable of all beers, wines and liquors being offered.

  • Mixes ingredients to prepare made-to-order and batched cocktails.

  • Recognizes the signs of over intoxication and refuses service when necessary.

  • Sets, restocks, and replenishes bar inventory and supplies as needed.

  • Stays guest-focused and provides an excellent guest experience.

  • Complies with all food and beverage regulations.

  • Completes set up, tear down, and cleaning of bar areas and operating equipment.

  • Performs post-event walk through with Bar Lead or Special Event Specialist to assure clean-up iscomplete.

  • Reports any operating issues or concerns to the Beverage Supervisor or Event Specialist.

  • Assists other bartenders with set up and tear down as needed.

  • Maintains a positive attitude and a helpful, friendly demeanor.

  • Maintains cleanliness of liquor room and all work related areas.

  • Responsible for the handling and exchanging of money to ensure a balanced cash bank.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D required.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of customer services techniques and skills.

  • Some knowledge of foodservice preferred, but not required.

  • Experience working with alcohol.

  • Must be 21 years of age or older

SKILLS REQUIRED AND RESULTS TYPICALLY ACHIEVED

  • Excellent knowledge in mixed drinks, garnishes and serving drinks.

  • Positive attitude and excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to keep bar organized, stocked and clean.

  • Ability to work well in a team environment.

  • Ability to both take direction and be a motivated self-starter that takes initiative and works well without supervision.

  • Ability to stand/walk for several hours at a time.

  • Ability to lift, carry or otherwise move objects weighing up to 50 pounds when receiving and storing equipment and event related items.

  • Must be detail oriented.
