Description
Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor and/or Recreation Senior Center Manager, the Senior Center part-time Chef/Kitchen Manager provides meals at the Senior Center. The primary responsibilities are to develop, plan, coordinate and evaluate menus, prepare meals that meet the nutritional needs of seniors in the community, operate a well-maintained commercial kitchen, and manage volunteer and paid staff.
SUPERVISION
Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor and/or Recreation Senior Center Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF WORK
  • The Senior Center Chef/Kitchen Manager position requires working 20-25 hours per week. Responsibilities include assisting with special events that require food, as directed. Candidates must be able to work flexible hours, including some nights and occasional weekends.
  • Oversee the daily kitchen activities in the planning and preparation of quality meals for Senior Center members.
  • Plan Wednesday and Friday lunches for 120-150 people, and plan other special event meals as needed.
  • Plan and execute Pancake Breakfast, first Wednesday of the month. 6am - 10am.
  • Determine food presentation and food production line to ensure meals are served on time.
  • Carry out purchase and requisition of supplies. Responsible for control of kitchen inventory, including storage and monthly physical inventory. Ensure correct storage and disposal of food. Organize the freezer, storeroom and kitchen.
  • Train and oversee kitchen staff and volunteers in food preparation, serving and cleanup. Establish an efficient working schedule.
  • Monitor cleanliness and sanitation of all food preparation and storage areas, dining areas, and all kitchen equipment. Make sure hygiene and Franklin County Public Health food safety standards are met in all stages of food preparation and delivery.
  • Communicate effectively with front-of-the-house staff to enhance customer service.
  • Ensure the maintenance of kitchen equipment, report any breakdown, and coordinate with repair and maintenance companies.
  • Implement a food safety program.
  • Stay current in food safety regulations.
  • Responsible for kitchen functionality during vacations, sick days, or any other absence from work as needed.
  • Ability to respond to multiple demands in a courteous and effective manner.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, handle exposure to extreme heat and cold, and lift up to 50 lbs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF WORK
  • CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain with 6 months of employment.
  • ServSafe Level 2 Certification, or ability to obtain with 6 months of employment.
  • Proficient with Google Suites, such as email and Google Docs. Familiar with online ordering (e.g. Gordon Food Services). Ability to learn software as required.

RETIREMENT PENSION
The City contributes 14% monthly toward retirement benefits offered through the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System. The employee pension payment share is 10% of gross salary.
Personal Leave
Eligible for 24 hours of personal leave if more than 500 hours worked in previous calendar year.
Eligible for 40 hours of personal leave if more than 1000 worked in previous calendar year.
