About Claypool Electric

Founded in Lancaster, Ohio in 1954, Claypool Electric is a third-generation, family-owned, full-service electrical contractor serving commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, technology, safety/security, renewable-energy, and other construction markets throughout Central and Southern Ohio.

The Opportunity

Claypool Electric is looking for an organized and motivated Project Engineer to support its Project Management and Operations team. This role works closely with Project Managers and field leadership to help plan, coordinate, document, and execute electrical and low-voltage construction projects. It is a strong opportunity for someone who understands construction and wants to build a long-term career in project management.

What You’ll Do
  • Maintain project drawings, specifications, revisions, contracts, RFIs, submittals, change orders, meeting minutes, and closeout documentation.
  • Build and maintain submittal logs; collect, review, route, and track submittals through approval and distribution to the field.
  • Draft, log, and track RFIs and promptly identify potential cost or schedule impacts for the Project Manager.
  • Assist with material take-offs, vendor quotes, bid comparisons, purchase orders, procurement, and long-lead equipment tracking.
  • Track material lead times and coordinate deliveries with Superintendents, Foremen, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Prepare and maintain change order requests, T&M tickets, supporting documentation, and change order logs.
  • Assist Project Managers and Superintendents with project schedules, look-ahead planning, job-cost reviews, labor tracking, and project reporting.
  • Support pay applications, schedules of values, stored-material documentation, lien waivers, subcontractor documentation, and project closeout.
  • Serve as a communication bridge between the office and field and regularly visit assigned jobsites to observe progress and assist with coordination.
What We’re Looking For
  • Associate degree in Construction Management, Construction Technology, Electrical Technology, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in an electrical, mechanical, or general construction environment, such as project engineering, project coordination, estimating, purchasing, or a field-to-office transition.
  • Recent Construction Management graduates with strong internship experience will also be considered.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and working knowledge of submittal, RFI, and change order processes.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, communication, follow-through, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and Outlook. Experience with construction management software is strongly valued.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with Procore, Autodesk Build/BIM 360, Bluebeam Revu, Newforma, or similar construction management software.
  • Experience with Vista by Viewpoint, Sage 300 CRE, Foundation, ComputerEase, or another construction ERP/accounting system.
  • Prior electrical field experience, knowledge of the NEC, or experience with prevailing-wage/public-works projects.
  • Familiarity with estimating or scheduling software such as Accubid, ConEst, McCormick, Microsoft Project, or Primavera P6.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is a plus.
Why Claypool Electric
  • Structured career path with the opportunity to progress from Project Engineer to Assistant Project Manager, Project Manager, and beyond.
  • Competitive benefits, including health, dental, and vision insurance; company-paid life insurance; short- and long-term disability; 401(k) with company match; paid time off and holidays.
  • Hands-on exposure to the full project lifecycle and the opportunity to work directly with experienced project and field leadership.
