Job description
The Segment Manager leads the Carbide Rod product segment and is responsible for developing and executing product and commercial strategies to drive market share, revenue growth, profitability, and customer satisfaction. Serves as the commercial leader for the segment, partnering with Sales, Operations, R&D, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing to align customer needs and market opportunities with business objectives. The role also leads and develops the Product Analyst supporting the segment, providing direction and oversight of product management, forecasting, pricing, reporting, analysis, and product lifecycle activities. The Segment Manager translates strategic objectives and market insights into actionable initiatives that support sustainable growth and leverage Hyperion's manufacturing capabilities and technology leadership.
Eastern time zone is preferred.
Segment Strategy & Market Development
- Develop and oversee the execution of the Carbide Rods growth strategy.
- Create and execute go-to-market strategies for products across target markets, applications, geographies, distributors and strategic accounts.
- Identify and prioritize growth opportunities through market analysis, customer engagement and competitive intelligence.
- Monitor industry trends, customer requirements, emerging technologies and competitive activities.
- Develop market segmentation approaches that improve focus, value proposition effectiveness, and resource allocation.
- Analyze market size, growth potential and customer application requirements to support strategic decision making.
Product Lifecycle Management
- Manage the Carbide Rod product portfolio throughout the entire lifecycle, including requirements development, commercialization, sustainment and phase-out.
- Develop and maintain product roadmaps aligned with customer needs, strategic objectives and operational capabilities.
- Drive pricing strategy recommendations and product portfolio optimization initiatives.
- Lead product rationalization efforts to improve profitability and simplify offerings where appropriate.
- Develop business cases supporting new products, product enhancements and strategic investments.
New Product Development & Commercialization
- Partner with R&D, Technology and Operations to define product requirements and prioritize development projects.
- Lead commercialization plans for new products and manage product launch activities.
- Develop value propositions, positioning strategies and launch materials that drive rapid market adoption.
- Ensure development priorities are aligned to customer needs, growth opportunities and return-on-investment expectations.
- Support stage-gate and innovation review processes as required.
Commercial Excellence
- Develop compelling customer value propositions, sales tools and product training materials that improve commercial effectiveness.
- Support global sales teams with customer engagements, strategic account reviews and growth initiatives.
- Work closely with sales leadership to identify opportunities to increase penetration in key markets and accounts.
- Support lead generation, opportunity qualification, product promotion and market development initiatives.
- Facilitate consistent communication between commercial teams and manufacturing locations.
Forecasting, Pricing & Business Performance
- Work with Sales and the FP&A team to develop demand forecasts for assigned product lines.
- Work closely with Operations and Supply Chain to align production planning and inventory strategies with customer demand.
- Monitor and evaluate product line performance including revenue, volume, margin, pricing realization and market share.
- Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for business performance.
- Recommend corrective actions where results deviate from plan.
- Review and approve pricing analyses, quotation strategies, profitability assessments, and commercial recommendations prepared by the Product Analyst.
- Ensure business decisions are supported by robust financial, market, customer, and operational analyses.
Voice of Customer & Customer Engagement
- Develop comprehensive understanding of customer applications, manufacturing processes and challenges.

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Business, Marketing or related discipline required.
- MBA or advanced business degree preferred.
- Minimum 5-8 years of commercial, product management, business development or marketing experience within manufacturing or industrial markets.
- Experience managing product portfolios and product lifecycle processes.
- Demonstrated success in driving revenue growth, profitability improvement, strategic project management and market share gains.
- Experience working cross-functionally with Sales, R&D, Operations and Supply Chain organizations and leading cross-functional teams effectively in a matrix organization.
- International business experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of product management and commercialization processes.
- Experience with pricing strategy development and business planning.
- Strong financial and analytical skills.
- Provide clear direction, coaching and constructive feedback.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and business analytics applications.
- Experience using CRM, ERP and business intelligence tools.
- Excellent project management skills.
- Travel - up to 35% domestic and international trade.
