The BIM Lead is responsible for the successful planning, implementation, and coordination of Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes on assigned projects. This role combines strong project-level BIM coordination with direct management and mentorship of a small team of BIM Modelers to ensure high-quality, clash-free models are delivered on time and within project standards. This position reports directly to the BIM Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Leadership & Coordination

    • Develop and Enforce Standards: Create and maintain the BIM Execution Plan (BEP) and project-specific BIM standards, ensuring strict adherence by all internal team members and external stakeholders.

    • Model Coordination: Lead the overall model coordination effort, including performing complex clash detection (using software like Navisworks) and managing the resolution process with design and construction teams.

    • Project Setup: Establish project templates, file-sharing protocols, and a Common Data Environment (CDE) to facilitate seamless collaboration.

    • Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for all BIM-related activities between the internal BIM team, project managers, engineers and trade partners.

    • Deliverables: Oversee the generation of all BIM deliverables, including drawings, models, quantity take-offs, and other model-derived information, ensuring they meet the project's Level of Development (LOD) requirements.

    • Meetings: Organize and lead regular BIM coordination and model review meetings, tracking all action items to resolution.

  • Team Management & Development

    • Supervision: Directly manage a small team of BIM Modelers, assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and ensuring daily modeling activities align with the project schedule.

    • Quality Control (QC): Perform regular quality audits of the team’s models to ensure geometric accuracy, data integrity, and compliance with the BEP.

    • Mentorship: Provide technical guidance, coaching, and support to the team, helping to resolve complex modeling challenges and promote best practices.

    • Training: Identify training needs and lead internal training sessions for new hires and current staff on BIM software, standards, and workflows.

  • Technical & Software

    • Software Proficiency: Maintain expert-level proficiency in core BIM software (e.g., Autodesk Revit) and coordination tools (e.g., Navisworks Manage).

    • Content Management: Develop, maintain, and standardize the project-specific BIM content library (families, components, templates).

    • Innovation: Stay current with industry trends, evaluate new BIM-related software and workflows, and implement technologies that improve productivity and quality.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in a BIM/VDC role within the AEC industry, with a proven track record of managing and delivering complex projects.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity, managing a team of modelers or coordinators.

  • Expert-level proficiency in Revit and Navisworks Manage.

Required Knowledge & Skills:

  • Knowledge of Electrical, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

  • Deep understanding of construction processes, including design, coordination, fabrication, and installation.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.

  • Knowledge of Dynamo, Python, or other scripting languages for BIM automation is preferred.

  • Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., ISO 19650) is preferred.
