Job description

Pharmacy Technician - Medication Assistance Program

This position functions to assist the licensed pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical services to patients, as well as providing necessary services and information to nursing and medical staff. These services include preparation and packaging of moderately, complex medications, distribution of advanced medications, supplies and equipment, maintaining proper inventory levels, ensuring medications are in date and secure, and keeping appropriate records and documentation. This position is also responsible for supporting initiatives of area managers.

The Medication Assistance Program Dispensing Pharmacy Technician is knowledgeable about PMAPs, pharmaceutical terminology, insurance coverage (limitations, requirements, eligibility, pharmacy formulary, prior authorization, coordination of benefits etc.), available community and national resources, ICD-10 codes, and determinants of financial need. Displays an understanding of pharmaceutical terminology (brand, generic, dose, route, etc.). They provide all customers (patients and clinicians) with accurate and up-to-date information and work closely with financial counselors and clinical staff to assist patients who otherwise cannot afford medication to gain access to therapy.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age: 18 years.
  • Registered or eligible for pharmacy technician registration in Ohio. Pharmacy Technician Trainees must submit all required documentation to the Ohio Board of Pharmacy at least 10 business days before start date.

Ongoing:

  • Maintain Registered Pharmacy Technician status with Ohio Board of Pharmacy. Pharmacy Technician Trainees must obtain Registered Pharmacy Technician status within 1.5 years of hire.
  • Continues to meet departmental competency requirements and pharmacy standards of employee conduct.

The university will not sponsor applicants for work visas for this position.
