Chief Academic Officer - Bexley City Schools

Position: Chief Academic Officer

Reports to:  Superintendent

Employment Status: Full-time/260 Days

FLSA Status:   Administrative

Fair Labor Standards Act 

Salary:  $140,238 - $172,090

Job Description: Assumes authority and accountability for the district's academic support services as well as the academic performance of all schools. Drives the educational performance of the district, providing leadership, vision, and strategic direction for the district's curriculum, instruction, assessment, school improvement, and teacher/principal professional development initiatives. Directly supervises and supports the design and implementation of the social-emotional learning, equity centered practices, restorative practices, curriculum, standards, instruction, assessment, delivery and supports professional development for staff, is a lead support for staff mental health. Directly supervises curriculum development, professional development, special education, student assistance and intervention, principal leadership development, health and community services, grants, business partnerships, and special programs; supervises all principals and schools.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Administrative license or certificate
  • Demonstrated record of administrative success at the district level
  • Demonstrated experience as a building principal.
  • Valid Ohio Teacher Evaluation System (OTES) and Ohio Principal Evaluation System (OPES) Credentialing preferred
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate

Essential Functions:

  • Assist the Superintendent, in cooperation with other executive level administrators, in effectively coordinating and continuously improving academics, programs and operations
  • Assist the Superintendent in the implementation of the district's strategic, equity, and continuous improvement plans
  • Assist in the formation of educational philosophy and corresponding objectives for the implementation of the instructional program
  • Work with principals and teachers to support the implementation of new or revised programs and curriculum to meet district goals
  • Analyze performance data to improve programs and academic achievement.
  • Ensure the psychological, emotional, and social well-being and safety of students and staff
  • Remains current on best practices in social and emotional learning, learning differences, culturally responsive teaching, asset-based teaching and learning, and other equity-based practices
  • Consults with Principals and staff concerning social-emotional learning, cultural needs,and other individualized student-specific needs.
  • Prepares and presents reports to the superintendent on the progress of social-emotional learning integration
  • Provides guidance on designing social-emotional learning integration and embedding additional equity practices into the school district.
  • Coordinates professional development to support the curriculum and instruction by using culturally responsive best practices, including research on learning theory and content standards
  • With assistance from the Leader of School-Community Engagement, collaborates with all staff to support the embedding of equitable best practices throughout Bexley City Schools
  • Attends district-provided professional development as appropriate
  • Attends meetings, training workshops, and educational conferences to maintain and improve professional competence
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations
  • Supervise the general education program and operations of the district
  • Ensure that all district personnel effectively utilize district office staff capabilities, resources, and services
  • Coordinate various district committees, task forces, and initiatives
  • Coordinate professional development efforts across the district, including providing supervision of instructional coaches.
  • Establish and maintain a positive public relations program with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and support for overall district objectives and programs
  • Serve as liaison between the school and community for matters concerning curriculum, instruction, professional development, and assessment
  • Participate in the evaluation process of assigned reports
  • Provide leadership in all pupil service, curriculum and instruction, and instructional technology initiatives
  • Supervise State and Federal reports relative to assigned areas
  • Assist in the preparation and administration of the budget for assigned areas
  • Oversee enrollment of operations of homeschool and online school settings
  • Serve on committees as assigned by Superintendent
  • Participate in appropriate local, state, and national professional meetings
  • Work closely with the Bexley Education Association leadership
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and staff personal information
  • Interact in a positive and professional manner with staff, students, and parents
  • Lead the planning and organization of district academic-based administrative meetings
  • Remain current with local, state, and federal laws and policies and support building and department administrators with applying those laws and regulations to the educational program
  • Attend Board of Education meetings and present reports for the Board as requested by the Superintendent
  • Remain current with the latest educational research findings and related trends
  • Assist in the development and presentation of educational policies for the District
  • Work with the Director of Employee Relations and Superintendent in the recruitment and selection of administrative personnel for recommendation to the Board of Education
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Superintendent
