SUMMARY 

At Columbus Humane, we create a happier and healthier community for animals and the people who love them. We are leading the way with innovative animal welfare services and programming. We are currently seeking the perfect fit to join our amazing adoptions department and be a leader in animal rights, care, and adoption. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Thinks, communicates and acts in the best interest of Columbus Humane and our human and animal clients at all times; models our mission and values in all job-related functions. 
  • Serves as the primary customer service provider for Columbus Humane clients, during and following adoption. 
  • Assists guests interacting with adoptable animals and recommends potential pets who would be a good fit 
  • Provides counseling and support for new and recent adopters. 
  • Provides general information about the behavior and care of animals available for adoption. 
  • Educates existing and potential adopters regarding common veterinary practices and procedures. 
  • Conducts follow-up calls, providing support and counseling following adoption for Columbus Humane clients. 
  • Assists clients picking up adopted animals following surgery, answering questions and providing post-operative instruction. 
  • Assisting clients with selecting retail products and completing financial transactions. 
  • Assists the Adoptions Manager in supervising volunteers in order to provide high quality service and support for clients, other paid and volunteer staff and other animal welfare agencies. 
  • Assists with cleaning and maintenance of the lobby, adoption area, and other public areas of the facility. 
  • Promotes communication and cooperation between Columbus Humane departments. 
  • Works closely with the Veterinary Services Department to ensure accurate communication of information regarding an animal's health and behavior to potential adopters. 
  • Actively promotes Columbus Humane's mission, services, programs and events. Participates in fundraising as assigned. 
  • Actively supports staff and volunteers and promotes the development of skills related to the advancement of our goals and mission. Represents Columbus Humane in a professional and courteous manner at all times. 
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by the Adoptions Manager or designer. 

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent, knowledge of and experience working with animals preferred. 
  • Demonstrated experience in customer service, including computer skills and the ability to learn software systems. 
  • Must possess a valid Ohio Driver's License and have insurable driving record. 
  • Passionate belief in Columbus Humane's vision, mission and values. 
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. 
  • Ability to foster a collaborative team approach to solving challenging situations.
  • Additional compensation may be provided for bilingual proficiency, with a preference for Spanish language skills.
