Job description

Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery provides skilled nursing care to patients during labor, delivery, and postpartum periods. This role involves patient assessment, medication administration, treatment planning, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality maternal and neonatal care. The nurse is expected to float between similar units as needed and maintain compliance with required certifications and licensure.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct nursing care to laboring and delivering patients, including monitoring maternal and fetal status.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
  • Perform patient assessments and document findings accurately in the Epic EMR system.
  • Collaborate with physicians, midwives, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
  • Assist in emergency situations and provide neonatal resuscitation if necessary.
  • Float between Labor and Delivery and other similar units as required by staffing needs.
  • Adhere to facility policies including infection control, patient safety, and documentation standards.
  • Participate in continuing education and maintain required certifications.
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice (California state license required).
  • Minimum of 2 years nursing experience, preferably in Labor and Delivery or related acute care settings.
  • Certifications: ACLS, BCLS, NRP, Advanced AWHONN, LA Fire Card.
  • Proficient in patient assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning.
  • Ability to use Epic EMR for charting and documentation.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • Experience working in a Magnet-designated acute care hospital.
  • Familiarity with block scheduling and flexibility to accommodate manager discretion.
  • Comfortable wearing provided Labor & Delivery and Operating Room scrubs.
Special Considerations:
  • Must be willing to float between similar units.
  • No on-call requirement.
  • Pending licenses are not accepted; active license must be submitted with application.
  • Requested Time Off (RTO) must be included at time of submission.
  • Facility may call off staff once per two-week pay period despite guaranteed hours.
Scheduling:
  • Ratios maintained at 1:2 nurse to patient.
  • Weekend work is not required.
  • Block scheduling may be accommodated based on manager's discretion.
  • Typical shifts align with acute care hospital standards.
