The Wilberforce Institute is one of the leading centres of research and knowledge exchange about historical and contemporary enslavement and exploitation in the world. We seek to challenge and disrupt injustice by bringing people together to amplify their voices and overcome barriers and obstacles to living feely and with dignity. This ambition is underpinned by our unshakeable commitment to delivering solutions that influence policy, change practice, and deliver better outcomes for all.

The Academic Careers Framework outlines the specialist and core activities for the T&R pathway. As this is 20% research-only contract the 'T' component is not relevant to this position as it cannot be meaningfully accommodated within a such a small fractional contract. This being said, a modest contribution to Professional Training / CPD is expected as part of this role (at 1 - 3 days per annum) in the fields of climate migration, displacement, human rights advocacy and policy engagement.
As a 20% research-only position this constitutes 50% of the time a full time T&R lecturer would normally have for research (based on a 40/40/20 split with research being 40% of a lecturer's time). The minimum research expectation for this position is therefore one high quality research output every two years (books double-weighted) and one research grant application every 2 - 3 years).
In addition, attendance at core team planning days (one or two a year) plus approximately 50% attendance at staff meetings (once a month, 10 months of the year) is expected. Other duties of the post include representing the Wilberforce Institute internally and externally and supporting the Director of the Wilberforce Institute to drive forward the Institute's strategy and performance.
