Job description

Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace is a unique and growing gourmet food market with 12 (soon to be 14 +) locations throughout the tri-state area. We take great pride in offering our customers exceptional gourmet products, freshly prepared foods, and homemade dishes. Behind every successful store is a dependable facilities operation that keeps our specialty departments, equipment, and team members running at their best.

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Facilities Manager to join our team. Based at our corporate headquarters in Melville, NY, this position will oversee facilities maintenance and equipment operations across all store locations. Regular travel to our stores is required.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on facilities professional with extensive knowledge of commercial culinary equipment within a grocery store, restaurant, or food-production environment. While this position requires the technical knowledge to evaluate equipment and diagnose concerns, the Facilities Manager will work closely with approved vendors and contractors to coordinate most repairs and services.

The Facilities Manager will develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance program supporting all store facilities and specialty departments, including Kitchen, Bakery, Meat, Deli, Pizza, Seafood, Produce, and other areas utilizing commercial equipment. This position will oversee preventive maintenance, vendor relationships, work-order management, equipment replacement, cost analysis, budgeting, strategic planning, and the sourcing of parts and equipment.

This is an exciting opportunity for an accomplished facilities professional to build efficient processes, protect important company assets, and make a meaningful impact within a growing organization.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the maintenance and operational performance of equipment across all store locations, with a strong focus on commercial kitchen and culinary equipment.
  • Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive preventive maintenance program designed to extend equipment life, minimize downtime, and reduce repair costs.
  • Manage maintenance requests and assign each work order to the appropriate preferred vendor, contractor, or internal team member.
  • Review and confirm each store’s open work-order list daily and provide comprehensive weekly status reports.
  • Track equipment maintenance histories and follow through on repair and replacement orders.
  • Implement and manage an effective ticketing system to track maintenance requests from initial submission through completion.
  • Implement and maintain a fixed-asset management system for store equipment.
  • Conduct scheduled store visits and regular equipment inspections, documenting findings and recommending appropriate corrective actions.
  • Evaluate recurring or problematic equipment and determine whether repair, replacement, or an alternative product offers the best long-term solution.
  • Analyze equipment, parts, and repair expenditures to ensure stores are using reliable, efficient, and cost-effective products.
  • Source equipment and replacement parts while balancing product quality, availability, compatibility, and cost.
  • Coordinate equipment deliveries, installations, repairs, replacement parts, and service schedules.
  • Work closely with store management to schedule service calls and projects with minimal disruption to customers and daily store operations.
  • Maintain frequent communication with vendors and contractors to ensure projects and repairs remain on schedule.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with qualified service providers, contractors, suppliers, and equipment manufacturers.
  • Manage multiple repairs, installations, and facility-related projects simultaneously, ensuring each assignment is completed accurately and on time.
  • Prepare, manage, and monitor the annual facilities maintenance budget.
  • Develop forecasts and staffing recommendations to support the growth and future needs of the Facilities Department.
  • Use facilities management systems and related software for project tracking, reporting, forecasting, analysis, and asset management.
  • Develop meaningful reports and performance metrics related to equipment downtime, maintenance costs, vendor performance, repair frequency, and preventive maintenance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve department processes, reduce expenses, strengthen response times, and enhance store operations.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company policies and established safety procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Professional Skill Set
  • Hands-on facilities professional with extensive knowledge of commercial food-service equipment, maintenance requirements, and replacement parts.
  • Strong technical and mechanical aptitude with the ability to assess equipment concerns and recommend practical solutions.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to organize, develop, and manage an efficient Facilities Department.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and take ownership of projects from beginning to completion.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong vendor-management and negotiation abilities.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of prioritizing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and active-listening skills.
  • Ability to coordinate complex equipment delivery, installation, repair, and replacement schedules.
  • Commitment to quality, continuous improvement, and professional growth.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as Adobe and facilities management platforms.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of five years of facilities management experience within a grocery store, restaurant, commercial kitchen, or similar food-service environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial grocery and restaurant equipment, including tilt skillets, pizza ovens, combination ovens, commercial dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers, and related specialty equipment.
  • General working knowledge of plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, refrigeration, and other building systems.
  • Proven experience managing maintenance budgets, controlling costs, and evaluating repair-versus-replacement decisions.
  • Experience implementing and managing work-order, ticketing, and fixed-asset systems.
  • Strong computer skills, with an emphasis on reporting programs, spreadsheets, data analysis, and facilities management software.
  • Ability to diagnose equipment concerns and clearly communicate tactical recommendations, including repairs, replacement parts, new equipment purchases, and equipment upgrades.
  • Professional, patient, even-tempered, and solutions-oriented approach.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, documentation, and report-writing skills.
