Lecturer - Neuroscience Department

The Department of Neuroscience (NEU) at UC Berkeley invites applications for a pool of non-tenure track Lecturer positions to teach NEU courses as needed. Typically, lecturers will be hired to teach or co-teach a single course in a given semester or summer session. In rare occasions, a lecturer may be hired to teach or co-teach in several courses in the same semester.

Teaching Responsibilities We are seeking outstanding lecturers who can teach/co-teach small, medium and large size lectures, seminar and/or laboratory courses in the subject areas listed below:

  • Broad survey courses in neuroscience
  • Molecular, cellular and developmental neuroscience
  • Circuit, systems, and behavioral neuroscience
  • Cognitive neuroscience
  • Computational neuroscience
  • Neurotechnology
  • Laboratory courses in the above areas
  • Scientific communication and writing

General Duties In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), maintaining a course website, and using a learning management system( e.g. bCourses at UC Berkeley, Canvas, etc.).

Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application): Laboratory Courses and Lecturer Courses: A Master's degree (or equivalent international degree) is required by time of application.

Additional qualifications (required at time of hire): Lecturer Courses: A Ph.D or M.D. degree (or equivalent international degree) is required to teach a lecture course by the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications (by start date): Lecture Courses: Documented experience in teaching one of the biological or life sciences at the college level. Laboratory Courses: Completion of all Ph.D (or equivalent international degree) requirements except dissertation in a biological field or life sciences.
