Position Title: Project Accountant
Location: Sterling, VA (Onsite)
Assignment Type: Permanent Hire
Compensation: $75,000 - $80,000 / Annually
Work Schedule: M-F 9-5

Job Description:We are seeking a detail-oriented Project Accountant to support financial operations across multiple projects. This role will work closely with project managers and accounting leadership to ensure accurate cost tracking, billing, and financial reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:Project Accounting & Job Costing - Track and monitor project costs including labor, materials, and subcontractors
- Maintain accurate job cost reports and analyze budget vs. actual performance
- Partner with project teams to review financial performance and identify variances
Billing & Revenue Recognition - Prepare and process progress billings and support percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
- Ensure timely and accurate invoicing in alignment with contract terms
- Track and reconcile billings, including over/under billing
WIP & Financial Reporting - Prepare and maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules
- Assist with month-end close, including accruals and journal entries
- Reconcile project sub-ledgers to the general ledger
Compliance & Reporting - Support compliance-related reporting and maintain accurate documentation for audits
- Assist with payroll-related project reporting and ensure alignment with applicable regulations
General Accounting Support - Review and code invoices to appropriate jobs and cost codes
- Support AP/AR processes tied to project accounting
- Assist with internal and external audits as needed
Qualifications: - 3+ years of project accounting experience
- Experience with job costing and project-based accounting environments
- Understanding of billing processes and revenue recognition concepts
- ERP system experience (training provided on internal system)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate effectively
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
