Thalle Construction Co., Inc. (“Thalle”) is currently seeking a Grade Foreman.  The Grade Foreman will report to the General Superintendent and work closely with and interact with a variety of staff while remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. This position is located out of our office in Clayton, NC. 

Thalle, established in 1947, is a heavy civil construction company with a corporate office in Hillsborough, NC and a regional office in Alvarado, Texas. Thalle has construction projects throughout the Southeast region, Texas, and New Jersey with growth nationwide. Our diverse and expansive project scope of heavy civil infrastructure projects includes dams, reservoirs, locks, DOT roadway construction and bridges, large diameter utilities, landfills, mass excavation, wastewater, on-demand emergency services.

Salary: Based Upon Qualifications and Experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Grading Foremen will manage the earth removal of large public and private construction projects. They are team leaders, supervising crews of workers to ensure that projects proceed smoothly. A foreman contributes the knowledge gained from education and work site experience to see to it that the crew is working safely and efficiently to complete projects on time.

  • Identify and schedule each component of the plan and assign appropriate manpower and equipment to each activity daily.
  • At the outset of each day, meet with each assigned employee to clearly and effectively communicate to that employee his required personal daily activity.
  • Coordinate with and direct the activity of all jobsite crews, subcontractors and material and equipment providers, and effectively interfaces with clients, inspectors, and regulatory representatives and other necessary individuals or organizations.
  • At the end of each day, accurately report all jobsite time and activity, review performance-to-plan with Project Engineer and or Project.
  • Manager and adjust the following day’s assignments, resources and schedules.
  • Monitor all job site activity throughout the day, coordinating and balancing activity to ensure that the daily plan is achieved, making adjustments in assignment as necessary for the master plan, schedule and budget is adhered to.
  • Working from contract documents, project plan and schedules and other relevant information, create a weekly/daily Project Work Plan.
  • Conduct work with 100% integrity and professionalism.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to review and understand plan specs and drawings.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in a field environment.
  • Proficient in written and verbal business communications skills.
  • Ability to give and receive written or oral instructions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationship with office and field personnel.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on the telephone.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
