Database Administrator (DBA)

Federal IT Operations & Maintenance

 Location: Fully Remote — Must reside in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area (DMV)
 Onsite: Occasional onsite work in Washington, DC or Sterling, VA
 Schedule: Saturday – Tuesday, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
 Compensation: $110.00 – $180.00 per hour
 Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
 Clearance Required: Active SECRET Clearance with ability to obtain TOP SECRET

Position Overview

major consulting firm supporting a U.S. government facility is seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to join a high-performing IT Operations and Maintenance team.

This position supports mission-critical systems, applications, networks, and databases used in government operations worldwide. The DBA will be responsible for database administration, optimization, security, backup/recovery, upgrades, monitoring, and production support across complex enterprise environments.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Oracle DBA seeking a long-term, full-time permanent position supporting a major federal program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement, administer, maintain, and optimize enterprise database environments.
  • Perform database performance tuning, indexing, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Manage database backup, recovery, replication, and transaction logs.
  • Maintain database security, integrity controls, and enterprise security standards.
  • Rapidly address critical vulnerabilities, CVEs, and known exploited vulnerabilities.
  • Develop and maintain stored procedures, triggers, scripts, and SQL-based solutions.
  • Administer Oracle RDBMS, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and related DBMS platforms.
  • Establish and enforce database administration standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Support database upgrades, migrations, patching, and production deployments.
  • Manage database replication across multiple servers and remote locations.
  • Support developers, analysts, architects, and technical teams with database design and integration.
  • Review technical designs, reports, documentation, and database architecture.
  • Develop and maintain enterprise reporting and database monitoring solutions.
  • Support Oracle RAC, ASM, GoldenGate, Data Guard, RMAN, OEM, patching, and security.
  • Research and implement new database and cloud technologies.
  • Troubleshoot complex production database issues and recommend long-term solutions.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior database administrators.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Current, active SECRET security clearance.
  • Ability to obtain a TOP SECRET clearance.
  • Minimum 7 years of Oracle DBA or Oracle-related experience.
  • At least 5 years supporting Oracle 11g and/or 12c environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • Oracle RAC
    • ASM
    • GoldenGate
    • Data Guard
    • RMAN
    • Oracle patching
    • Database security
  • Hands-on experience implementing Oracle 19c RDBMS in production environments.
  • Experience with Oracle 19c/21c GoldenGate Hub environments.
  • Experience upgrading Oracle databases from 11g to 19c.
  • Experience with Transparent Data Encryption (TDE).
  • Experience developing custom monitoring reports using Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c OEM.
  • Strong SQL and database troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex technical priorities.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership and mentor less experienced team members.

Preferred Qualifications

Highly desirable experience includes:

  • Oracle upgrades from 11g/12c to 19c.
  • Oracle database containerization.
  • Oracle private or public cloud environments.
  • Oracle Engineered Systems such as Exadata or Sun SuperCluster.
  • Previous experience serving as a Database Operations Lead / DB Ops Lead.
  • Experience supporting large-scale federal or government IT environments.

Education & Experience

Candidates must meet one of the following combinations:

  • Bachelor's degree + 8 years of experience
  • Master's degree + 6 years of experience
  • Associate's degree + 10 years of experience
  • High School Diploma/GED + 12 years of experience
