Job description

The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is seeking a Geophysics Technologist (Near-Surface Geophysics) to join our Geophysics team in Whitehorse, YK.
This is a permanent, full-time opportunity to support geophysical projects across the Yukon and Northern and Western Canada, while contributing to a growing practice within an established northern office.
We are looking for someone with 2-8 years of experience in near-surface geophysics who is ready to take the next step in their career. This role includes significant fieldwork and travel to remote project sites, often in challenging environmental conditions, including mountainous terrain and helicopter-access locations.

Your Role:

  • Support a wide variety of geophysical projects throughout the project cycle, from small local assignments to larger multi-person programs at remote project sites.
  • Lead and complete geophysical data collection surveys, including, but not limited to, seismic refraction, MASW, VSP, ERT, electromagnetics, downhole, non-destructive testing, and GPR.
  • Perform field troubleshooting and equipment maintenance.
  • Support safety and logistics planning.
  • Assist with processing geophysical data collected in the field.
  • Work closely with team members to deliver assignments on schedule and within budget.
  • Represent Tetra Tech professionally when interfacing with our clients.
  • Conduct activities in accordance with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Follow Tetra Tech's safety policies and procedures, work safely at all times, and report any health and safety incidents or concerns.
  • Additional duties as required. 
     

Qualifications:

  • Geoscience technology diploma or other relevant geoscience education.
  • 2-8 years of experience in near-surface geophysical methods, preferably in northern environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of near-surface geophysical methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead field crews and manage geophysical programs independently.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly present technical information to team members and clients.
  • Positive, adaptable, and proactive approach to field-based work.
  • Travel will be required in this position, and candidates must be prepared to undertake field assignments of up to 24 days at a time.
  • Physically capable of performing manual labour, including lifting heavy equipment and traversing steep terrain.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence or equivalent.
  • Experience with Matlab, Res2DInv, SeisImager, WellCAD, ArcGIS, or Surfer is an asset.
  • Additional training such as First Aid, ATV, snowmobile operation, or WHMIS is an asset.
