Position Title:

Machine Operator I-2nd Shift

Department:   Assembly

Reports To: Assembly Supervisor

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Starting Hourly Rate:  $19.30 + $1.75 Shift Differential 

Hours:   Mon-Thurs 2:45PM-1:15AM

Summary

Assemble quality tire repairs (patches) from pieces of rubber and fabric by machine and/or by hand.

Education/Experience

High school graduate or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred and a minimum of one-year prior work experience.

Job Requirements/Skills

  • Able to read limited number of two-and-three syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.  Ability to print and speak simple sentences. Ability to work in a group setting. Ability to follow and understand simple instructions, including read and follow ISO document charts.
  • Able to add and subtract and do simple division and multiplication.  Calculators are available.
  • Reasoning Ability: Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-or-two step instructions.  Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Operate machines (i.e. big clicker, Z-5002, Tech 1000 and Tech 1001 cut and lay machine, and bonus maker, etc.).  Must be willing to be trained and operate any machine as needed.
  • Assemble tire repair patches from rubber and fabric. 
  • Operate machinery and operate computer on machines
  • Lift, mount, and set up rolls of materials on machine spindle(s).
  • Keep supplies fed to the machine and assemblers.  
  • Inspect quality of repair (patch). pull paper off of the cured repair (patches).
  • Write and calculate labor ticket(s).
  • Follow work orders closely.
  • Record labor and inventory accurately.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination is required.
  • Clean machines and floor.
  • Carry tubs of pressed repairs to their next destination.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervision:

Must be able to work independently, and or with a team, with little supervision (will not give supervision)

Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out three step instructions and deal with standardized situations with some process variability.

Physical Demands

Activity could be on the job is 1/3 to more than 2/3 of the work day, not limited to standing, walking, sitting, using hands, reaching, climb or balance, talk or listening, taste or smell, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, lifting 10lbs to more than 100lbs

  • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less)
  • Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more)
  • Ability to identify and distinguish colors
  • Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point)

Frequently exerting or lifting up to 55 lbs. daily.  Frequently pushing, pulling and or lifting are required.  Occasionally climbing, ascending or descending ladders, stairs, using legs, arms, hands and feet.  Emphasizing agility of body.

Work Environment

Most work areas are air conditioned in the summer. All areas are heated in the winter. Environmental descriptions cover a broad range of jobs, some of which may require less than shown below.

Environmental conditions will vary based on assigned tasks and may include 1/3 to more than 2/3 of the work day, working near mechanical parts, work in high or precarious (various), fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat and/or cold, risk of electrical shock, work with explosive(s) materials, risk of radiation, and vibration. There will also be moderate noise levels.

Work Environment: Safety shoes and safety glasses are required.
