Job description

Position Overview

TCOM is seeking an experienced Senior Checker to support the Engineering Department by reviewing and validating engineering drawings and technical documentation for accuracy, completeness, and standards compliance. This role ensures that both computer-generated and manually created documents—including complex assemblies—conform to applicable engineering standards, internal procedures, and configuration requirements.

In addition to hands-on checking responsibilities, this position plays a key mentoring role by guiding staff in proper drafting practices and developing written guidance to formalize and document drawing standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and verify engineering drawings ranging from individual detail drawings to complex assemblies for technical accuracy, completeness, and conformity to applicable standards.
  • Evaluate associated parts structures and bills of material (BOMs) to ensure correctness and consistency with design intent.
  • Review and validate supporting technical documentation, including specifications, schematics, wire tabulations, and departmental procedures.
  • Oversee and support the CAD checking process to ensure drawing content is accurate and design solutions are appropriate and manufacturable.
  • Mentor designers and drafters on proper drafting techniques, standards application, and documentation best practices.
  • Develop and maintain written guidance and procedures defining drawing and documentation standards.
  • Utilize CAD tools to support design and documentation activities, with SolidWorks as the primary platform; familiarity with 2D CoCreate and 3D CREO preferred.
  • Use Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems to manage tasks, research data, and generate reports.
  • Research parts, materials, and standards using internal libraries and online resources.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supervisory personnel to resolve design, documentation, and scheduling issues.
  • Work with database administrators and engineering leadership to develop and maintain standard parts, procedures, tools, and processes.
  • Occasionally perform duties typically assigned to designers or drafters at lower classification levels.
  • Stay current with advances in CAD, engineering, manufacturing, and database technologies and apply new knowledge to improve processes and outcomes.
  • Follow applicable manufacturing methods, drafting techniques, and government regulations.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Tools & Systems

  • Computer-aided design and drafting software (SolidWorks required; CoCreate and CREO preferred)
  • Spreadsheet software
  • Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems
  • Standards databases and online research tools

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Additional technical education or formal training in Computer-Aided Design/Drafting or equivalent related experience
  • Strong mathematical foundation, including algebra, plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry
  • Solid understanding of engineering principles and technical documentation practices

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of design and drafting experience, including at least 5 years as a CAD/Drawing Checker
  • Experience across multiple engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical/electronic, civil, and aeronautical
  • Strong working knowledge of manufacturing processes and cost-driven design considerations
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and adherence to drafting, dimensioning, and tolerancing standards, including ASME Y14.100 series and MIL-STD-31000

Compensation

In compliance with state and local laws, the salary range for this role is $71,537 to $112,516. The range provided is a general guideline and good faith estimate representative of all experience levels but is not a guarantee of compensation or salary. TCOM considers several factors when extending an offer including, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, a candidate’s experience, education/training, key skills, internal equity, and current market conditions. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.

TCOM offers a variety of benefits, including health and disability insurance, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts/HSAs, EAP, tuition reimbursement, parental leave, paid time off (PTO), and company-paid holidays. The specific programs, options and eligibility may vary depending on date of hire, classification, and schedule type.
