    Job description

    About the opportunity

    Sunshine Community Health Center (SCHC) is recruiting an experienced family physician educator to build and lead the Denali Family Medicine Residency Program, preparing physicians for successful practice in rural Alaska. SCHC has submitted its application for ACGME Sponsoring Institution accreditation. The Program Director will guide the residency from development through launch by shaping the curriculum, building the faculty team, planning clinical training sites, fostering a collaborative learning culture, and supporting successful program accreditation.

    Role at a glance

    Reports to - Designated Institutional Official (DIO)

    Location - SCHC and affiliated training sites in the Mat-Su Borough; weekly site travel is expected

    Compensation - Anticipated full-time salary of $250,000 to $280,000; development-phase compensation will be defined in the offer

    How the role will develop

    Development Phase

    • Anticipated first 6 to 12 months

    • Approximately 0.5 FTE during the Development phase

    • About 100% program leadership and administration

    • Remote work may be available when compatible with program milestones; weekly travel to SCHC and affiliated training sites is expected

    Program Operations

    • Following program accreditation and operational readiness

    • Full-time, based on workload demand once Program Operations phase is reached

    • About 60% leadership and administration, 20% direct patient care, and 20% resident teaching and precepting

    • Primarily on site across SCHC and affiliated training locations, with travel based on program needs

    Key responsibilities

    • Lead residency development and preparation of the ACGME family medicine program application after Sponsoring Institution approval; maintain accreditation and program quality thereafter.

    • Develop a competency-based curriculum, evaluation system, and rural clinical training experiences.

    • Recruit, support, and evaluate faculty; lead resident recruitment, education, supervision, and assessment.

    • Establish clinical training partnerships with hospitals, community physicians, and participating sites.

    • Maintain an active, broad-scope family medicine practice, including outpatient and inpatient care, obstetrics, pediatrics, call, and resident precepting, subject to credentialing and approved schedules.

    • Build a respectful, collaborative learning environment responsive to the needs of rural Alaska communities.

    Required qualifications

    • MD or DO degree; completion of an accredited family medicine residency; current certification by ABFM or AOBFP.

    • At least three years of educational or administrative experience, with demonstrated GME leadership and teaching, or other qualifications acceptable to the ACGME Review Committee for Family Medicine.

    • Active family medicine practice; eligibility for SCHC credentialing, an unrestricted Alaska medical license, and DEA registration.

    • BLS and ACLS certification by the employment start date; eligibility for an appropriate academic appointment.

    Preferred qualifications

    • Prior program director, assistant program director, core faculty, site director, or comparable GME leadership experience, including new program development or accreditation.

    • Rural, frontier, FQHC, teaching health center, or underserved practice or teaching experience; Alaska experience and experience with culturally responsive care are valued.

    • Broad-scope family medicine, including inpatient care, obstetrics, pediatrics, and call.
