    Job description

    Organizational Function
    This person shall be responsible for all aspects of observations for material receipt, preparation, fabrication compliance and visual weld/bolting/coating in-process and final inspection and shall report to the Chief Inspector. He shall work in cooperation with shop supervision and production personnel to ensure beneficial inspection.
    Work Performed
    1. This person shall perform visual and dimensional inspections of welds and fabricated material.
    2. Verify the use of proper welding procedures and qualifications of welders and tack welders. Inspect and verify bolted connections comply with specifications.
    3. Be able to inspect paint for proper coverage, visual defects, and thickness.
    4. Verify use of correct materials by type, grade and heat number if and when required by the contract.
    5. Properly record non-conforming work and verify repair of such non-conformances.
    6. Maintain records of inspection by piece mark and make daily inspection reports to the Chief Inspector. These inspections shall be performed in a manner to minimize the sequence or flow of material in the shop.
    Qualification and Training
    1. This person shall have a minimum of one (1) year of structural steel experience.
    2. Be able to read and interpret structural detail drawings.
    3. Have examined through company training for bolt, weld and fabrication standards.
    4. Have or work toward formal training as ASNT Level II in all non-destructive testing processes routinely used in the facility.
    5. This person also shall have or work toward training to be an AWS Certified Welding Inspector.
    Authority
    This person shall have the authority to "stop work" on any project where the quality is questionable.
