Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our underground utility construction team. This position will primarily operate excavators for mainline pipe installation while assisting with daily crew management, production coordination, and jobsite safety. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, and experienced in underground utility and pipe operations.

Responsibilities
  • Operate excavators and other heavy equipment safely and efficiently on underground utility projects
  • Perform excavation and installation work for water, sewer, and storm mainline pipe operations
  • Read and interpret construction plans, grade stakes, and utility layouts
  • Assist with coordinating daily crew activities and maintaining project productivity
  • Ensure trench safety, proper pipe installation, and quality workmanship
  • Communicate effectively with foremen, laborers, truck drivers, and subcontractors
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and basic maintenance checks
  • Maintain clean and organized job sites
  • Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations
  • Qualifications
  • Minimum 35 years of experience operating excavators in underground utility construction
  • Experience with water, sewer, or storm sewer mainline installation preferred
  • Ability to work efficiently around existing utilities and within tight tolerances
  • Leadership experience or ability to help direct crews in the field
  • Knowledge of trenching, grading, pipe alignment, and safe excavation practices
  • Ability to read blueprints and grade information
  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and teamwork mentality
