JOB SUMMARY
Working under the supervision of attending physicians, the Clinical Fellow handles more advanced and specialized cases, and provides direct patient care while completing advanced training under non accredited programs in their specific medical or health discipline to gain specialized skills and experience. This role is also involved in non-clinical activities such as research, quality improvement, and teaching.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
  • Education
    Medical Degree (MD, DO, MBBS) or other doctoral-level degree (e.g., Ph.D., PharmD) from an accredited institution.
    Successful completion of a general (core) residency program
  • Experience
    Proven clinical experience in a relevant specialty.
  • Licenses and Certifications
    Must be eligible for licensure to practice medicine in the State of Texas

JOB DUTIES
  • Patient Care:
    • Examine and treat patients with illnesses related to the fellows specialty participating in patient rounds and managing complex cases alongside an attending physician.
    • Perform advanced medical care, either directly or in consultation.
    • Perform surgical procedures specific to the chosen specialty, as required.
    • Work as part of a healthcare team with nurses, residents, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
    • Maintain thorough and accurate medical records, including patient histories, treatment plans, procedure/operative notes, discharge summaries, and clinical findings.
    • Provide clinical consultations to other medical teams regarding patients with conditions related to their subspecialty.
  • Research/Scholarly Activity
    • Assist with designing, planning, and executing clinical, translational, or laboratory-based research projects.
    • Collect, manage, and analyze research data to help advance medical knowledge.
    • Engage in scholarship, such as poster presentations, chapter writing, case reports, editorial commentaries, non-peer reviewed publications, and digital scholarship.
    • Present research findings at internal meetings, as well as national, regional, and international conferences.
    • Participate in writing applications for research ethics approval and securing grant funding.
  • Teaching and Leadership:
    • Educate and mentor junior residents and medical students through formal teaching sessions, bedside tutorials, and practical exams.
    • Help develop and improve teaching curriculum for medical trainees and students, when possible.
    • Gain experience in leadership and administrative tasks, such as organizing clinics, schedule creation, OR management, and coordinating healthcare teams.
    • Lead or participate in quality improvement projects to enhance patient care, patient safety, and system efficiency.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
