    Job description

    Summary of Functions: Please read the minimum requirements that will be accepted for consideration for this position. The Associate Teacher assists the Lead GSRP Teacher in delivering the Montessori curriculum to students during the standard school year. The GSRP Program runs during the 2026/2027 school year which begins in September 2026 and ends in June 2027.

    The Summer Discovery program is through Schoolhouse Montessori and is not affiliated with the GSRP program. Associate Teacher position is a 12 month long position as all Schoolhouse staff are required to be available to work during the summer session. This is a grant-funded, non-tenured position.

    Continued employment under the terms of this grant is continued upon continued funding. Duties and Responsibilities Assists the Lead GSRP Teacher in the preparation of materials and the maintenance of the classroom. Coordinates student activities under the guidance of the Lead Teacher.

    Supervise classroom activities, including activities before and after school, nap time, playground activities, and arrival and dismissal activities. Monitors all children during school activities to ensure their safety, health, and well-being. Assists in creating an exciting and challenging learning environment, using the Montessori pedagogy, for all children.

    Attends Open Houses, Parent Tours, and student conferences as requested by the Lead GSRP Teacher or School Director. Performs other duties as assigned by the Lead GSRP Teacher or School Director. Maintains consistent and regular attendance as an essential function of the position of Assistant Teacher.

    Accompany Lead GSRP Teacher during home visits 2x per year. Any GSRP Associate Teacher hired after June 21, 2011, must minimally have one of the following: An associate degree (AA) in early childhood education or child development or the equivalent; orA valid Center-Based Birth to Five CDA credential; orA valid Center-Based Preschool CDA credential; or An existing 120 Hour approval letter-See below The provision for 120 Clock Hours as a CDA equivalency has been discontinued; personnel who currently have a 120 Clock Hour approval letter from the MDE are 'grandfathered in.' MiLEAP requires no further action as long as the person continues to work as a GSRP Associate Teacher in the same or another GSRP. If there is a break in service to GSRP, a 'grandfathered' Associate Teacher must meet new credentialing requirements before working again in the position of GSRP Associate Teacher

    The AA and the CDA are formal training options that uniformly and systematically prepare staff to be effective team teachers in PreK classrooms. ***Please review the above minmum requirements as these are mandated requirements by LARA and the State.*** .
