    Job description

    Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 is seeking qualified teachers for the District's Special Education Program at the elementary and/or secondary level. We are seeking qualified  applicants to create a safe and caring climate and culture in which all students are prepared,  engaged, educated, empowered, and inspired to reach their fullest potential. Qualified applicants will be part of a collaborative team, assisting with providing individualized instruction and support  to students with physical, developmental, and/or learning disabilities.  

    Position Overview:
    Special Education Teacher 
    Hours/Day: 1.0 FTE
    Compensation/benefits: Burnsville Education Association
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:  




    Instructional Planning and Preparation  

     Demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy  

     Demonstrate knowledge of students' individual educational, physical, emotional, and  developmental needs  

     Select instructional goals aligned with student IEPs and state standards   Demonstrate knowledge of resources and accommodations  

     Design coherent and individualized instruction  

     Assess and monitor student learning and progress  

    Classroom Environment  

     Create an environment of respect and rapport  

     Establish a culture for learning and inclusion  

     Manage classroom procedures  

     Manage student behavior and provide consistent reinforcement  

     Organize physical space to ensure safety and accessibility  

     Work in an environment that is typically moderate in noise level, but may be loud  depending on the student population  

     Work with students in a variety of special education settings, including EBD, SLD, ECSE,  MMI, MSI, and Speech programs  

    Instructional Interaction  

     Communicate clearly and accurately  

     Use questioning and discussion techniques appropriate to student abilities   Engage students in learning  

     Provide feedback to students  

     Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness to individual needs  

     Create learning materials geared to each student's abilities and interests   Instruct students to improve sensory-motor, perceptual-motor, language, cognitive, and  social/emotional development  

    Professional Responsibilities  

     Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with  parents, administrators, and specialists  

     Confer with parents, social workers, testing specialists, and other professionals regarding  student progress and needs  

     Reflect on teaching and student outcomes  

     Maintain accurate records and documentation  

     Communicate regularly with families  

     Contribute to the school and district  

     Show professionalism  

     Read, analyze, and interpret scientific, technical, and legal documents 

     Respond to inquiries or complaints from parents, regulatory agencies, and members of  the school community  

     Effectively present information to management, public groups, and/or School Board   Apply mathematical concepts such as percentages, proportions, area, volume, and basic  algebra and geometry  

     Solve practical problems and interpret a variety of written, oral, diagram, or schedule based instructions  

     Demonstrate strong interpersonal, organizational, and conflict resolution skills   Maintain regular attendance and follow District rules, policies, and directives   Adapt teaching techniques to fit individual student needs  

     Demonstrate proficiency in word processing and data processing  

    Other duties as assigned  

    QUALIFICATIONS:  

     Bachelor's degree in Education or related field  

     Valid and current Minnesota state teaching license with certification in area to be taught  (e.g., EBD, SLD, ECSE, MMI, MSI, Speech)
