Job description

Science Applications International Corporation is seeking an experienced Enterprise Architect (Master Level) to lead our organization's technology direction, architectural vision, and strategic transformation initiatives for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). As a key technical architect and technology leader, the ideal candidate will define, design, and manage cutting-edge enterprise-wide solutions with a laser focus on mission outcomes and an operator-first mentality.

This is an exciting opportunity to combine enterprise architecture expertise with strategic leadership to build and modernize secure, scalable, and cost-effective solutions. You will enable a future-ready technology ecosystem, contribute to our digital transformation initiatives, and ensure alignment with the organization's goals and compliance requirements.

This is a hybrid role and requires 2-3 days on-site per week in Ashburn, VA

Strategic Leadership and Vision:

  • Define and deliver the organization's overarching technology vision and strategy to support long-term business objectives and CBP's operational success.
  • Serve as the primary technology thought leader and advisor to executives, offering expert insight into emerging trends, new technologies, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with business leaders, stakeholders, and decision-makers to align technology investments and infrastructure with evolving organizational goals.

Enterprise Architecture Design and Governance:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a robust enterprise architecture framework that ensures resilience, scalability, security, and alignment with business priorities.
  • Architect, design, and enhance secure, cost-efficient cloud-native services, platforms, and infrastructure, incorporating secure-by-design principles.
  • Design and implement microservice architectures and Java-based reactive applications to ensure high-performance, event-driven, and resilient system operations.
  • Integrate AI-embedded technologies to enhance operational capabilities and decision-making support.

Technology Innovation and Modernization:

  • Spearhead enterprise-wide cloud migration initiatives, supporting workload relocation for both on-premises and hybrid operations to cloud environments.
  • Champion the adoption of cutting-edge technology innovations, such as multi-cloud architectures, AI/ML technologies, and advanced analytics to address evolving enterprise challenges.

Team Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Build and mentor high-performing teams of architects, engineers, and IT professionals, fostering a collaborative,  outcome-driven culture of innovation and technical excellence.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including application, network, security, and data teams, to develop and implement mission-critical systems in hybrid and cloud environments.
  • Serve as an advocate and educator for enterprise architecture and cloud solutions, driving organization-wide adoption of best practices in technological transformation.

Required Skills and Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree and 18+ years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in systems engineering, solutions architecture, or related technical discipline
  • Proven experience developing and implementing enterprise-wide technology strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Extensive knowledge of designing and deploying cloud-native, hybrid, and on-premises architectures.
  • Practical expertise in Java-based reactive programming and microservice design patterns.
  • Hands-on experience with AI-embedded technologies and their application in large-scale enterprise environments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage with executives, build consensus, and inspire trust across cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Desired Skills and Experience: 

  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex mission requirements into actionable, operator-focused technology roadmaps.
  • Experience working within the federal government space, specifically understanding the unique security and compliance requirements of CBP.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and the ability to work well independently and in a team environment.

Customer Requirements:

  • Clearance: Ability to obtain and hold a public trust position and favorable suitability based on a CBP Background Investigation
  • Citizenship: Must be a US Citizen
  • Location: This is a hybrid role and requires 2-3 days on-site per week in Ashburn, VA. candidates must be in the northern VA area (Ashburn, VA).
