Job description

Start Your Career with one of Manitoba's Top Employers!

We have deep roots in our community. More than 85 years deep. And through the years we have proven our commitment to our members by making their priorities our priorities. We donate regularly to a wide range of organizations, feature local products prominently, and most importantly - give back to our members through profit sharing. We look to the past to inform our present core values.

But in this rapidly changing world, our roots ground us so that we can keep pace and innovate. We have grown from one standalone Gas Bar in downtown Winnipeg to an ever-expanding co-operative with 50 gas bar locations, 24 car washes, 6 cardlocks, 9 food stores, 8 pharmacies and an oil supply centre. Our fleet of trucks are on the road delivering fuel to farm and commercial accounts in Manitoba and northwestern Ontario.

And we just keep growing as we develop fresh, modern ways to deliver premium products with extraordinary customer service.

This role can be just the start of your career as there is ample opportunity for advancement within Red River Co-op. We are a proud member of the Co-operative Retailing System, a vast network of 160 retail Co-ops across western Canada.

The Opportunity:

Red River Co-op is recruiting for the position of Pharmacist. This position will float between our Winnipeg and rural locations in Niverville and Selkirk. This position offers flexibility and may be available as either part-time or full-time, depending on candidate interest and availability.

The Pharmacist provides patient focused services and professional advice/counselling on prescriptions and over-the-counter medications, and health related issues to patients. They develop and maintain strong working relationships with health care professionals in the community to ensure optimal patient care. They also provide oversight to Pharmacy Technicians, and Pharmacy Assistants in the delivery of medication, advice, counselling, and assistance to patients.

Essential responsibilities of the position include the following:

  • Provide patient focused services such as injections, medication reviews, and minor ailment prescribing to maximize patient care. Provide professional advice and counselling on prescription and OTC medications including indications, dosage, adverse effects, and drug interactions.

  • Ensure all medication dispensing processes are accurate and appropriately managed while focusing on the timely delivery, reporting, invoicing, ordering, and communication.  Oversee all dispensing duties carried out by a Pharmacy Assistant to ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of all prescriptions dispensed.

About You:

To be successful in this role, you will bring the following skills and competencies:

  • You must possess a valid pharmacist license for the province of MB, be in good standing with the College of Pharmacists Manitoba, and have no practice restrictions.
  • Preference given to individuals with at least 2 years of experience as a pharmacist.
  • You possess strong communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Previous experience with Kroll pharmacy software is an asset.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possess strong, independent problem-solving skills.

Total Rewards:

Red River Co-op offers a comprehensive total rewards package including group insurance, a strong pension plan, and an employee discount. Advancement opportunities abound in the Co-operative Retailing System, and we encourage ongoing professional development along with up to 100% reimbursement for post-secondary course work. Additional details will be shared with candidates as part of the interview process.
