Sr Electrical Design Engineer:
Job Summary
Vertiv is seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Sr. Electrical Design Engineer to join our team in Anderson, South Carolina, supporting high-impact projects in the data center industry with a strong focus on low-voltage (LV) power distribution systems. The Electrical Design Engineer will focus and be responsible for designing Electrical part for Switchboard / Switchgear product lines. The Electrical Engineer supports the design from start to finish and provides technical guidance to Supply chain and Material Management in global and local locations to support New Product Development and sustaining products. The role will review requirements and specifications, provide feedback, and use 3D CAD software to develop product designs. The product designs are documented in PLM software to release drawings and bills of material.
We are looking for candidates who are self-directed, solution-focused, and thrive in cross-functional teams. You will be part of a growing organization supporting some of the largest and most mission-critical data center projects across the U.S.
This position will be based onsite at Vertiv's Anderson, SC office location.
Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the Electrical Engineer (EE) to lead concept and detailed design of power systems including the use of busbar, power cable, and wire harnesses.

  • Reporting to R&D team lead, this position presents an excellent opportunity for a qualified professional pertaining to design and controls engineering functions of power distribution equipment.

  • Develop and assemble electrical drawing packages to be reviewed by the electrical design engineering team.

  • Prepare detailed electrical schematics, single line diagrams and communications network drawings in compliance with customer drawing packages, specifications and pre-established budget.

  • Preparation of electrical bill of materials.

  • Collaborate with mechanical and automation design teams along with project management to identify and resolve issues as well as ensure the successful completion of projects.

  • Contribute to the development of new practices and processes within the design team and assist in implementation of these to improve department performance.

  • Work with the project management team to ensure all project timelines and goals are met or exceeded on multiple projects at any given time.

  • Development of control wiring for automatic transfer controllers, breaker interlocking, PLC equipment, and power quality monitoring systems.

  • Creation of test scripts to prove functionality of control schemes.

  • Assist in training/mentoring newer team members

  • Collaborate with other Mechanical Engineers to efficiently break down tasks, discuss design ideas, and work towards the best possible solution.

  • Write, submit, and release change orders for new and released products into our PLM system using our revision control system.

  • Work with manufacturing engineers and production associates to build prototypes and provide direction when needed.

  • Familiarity with and ability to interpret industry design standards (UL, NEC, and IEC) for application to product designs and to comply with all relevant regulations.

  • Order parts/components and support for prototype builds and production.

  • Create customer facing product submittal drawings for finished designs.

  • Support manufacturing with building issues of new designs.

  • Occasional contact with outside vendors and suppliers as needed.

  • Identify areas requiring process improvement or documentation. Work with management to execute improvements.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of experience in product development.; OR Associate's Degree with minimum 9+ years experience.

  • Aptitude for problem solving and ability to apply this to electrical control design.

  • Capable of taking individual ownership of projects and working in a team environment as necessary.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and maintain the latest revisions of design drawings.

  • An adaptability to respond to a fast-moving business environment.

  • Accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Display a proactive, flexible approach to working within a team environment.

  • The ability to work effectively in a cross-functional group setting, including providing technical guidance to support management.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to summarize technical data/results quickly for non-technical audiences.

  • Travel as required, domestic and international, <10%

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5 plus years of experience in designing electrical and control wiring packages.

  • Knowledge of low voltage switchgear and basic understanding of manufacturing processes.

  • Proven experience in a related position / comparable role involving exposure to design software like AutoCAD, SEE Electrical, EPLAN etc.

  • Proven understanding of Underwriters Laboratories (UL) standards including but not limited to UL 1558, UL 891, UL 489 & UL 1066.

  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics and familiarity with electrical components such as fuses, circuit breakers, and transformers.

  • General knowledge of 3-phase power is preferred but not required.
