Deploys the release of new technologies as well as designs, installs, configures, maintains, and performs system integration testing of PC/server operating systems, related utilities, and hardware. Responsible for troubleshooting server problems as reported by users. Researches, evaluates, and recommends software and hardware products. Supports Web access and electronic messaging services and maintains a secure systems environment. Provides new hardware specifications to users based on application needs and anticipated growth, installs new servers, and maintains the server infrastructure.

Qualifications

IBM MQ (Message Queue) Administrator, responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of IBM MQ messaging middleware infrastructure. This role ensures reliable message delivery between applications and systems across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities
  • Installation & Configuration
    • Install and configure IBM MQ software on various platforms (Windows, Linux, Unix, AIX)
    • Set up queue managers, queues, channels, and listeners
    • Configure clustering and high availability solutions
    • Implement security protocols and SSL/TLS configurations
    • Set up multi-instance queue managers for failover capabilities
  • Administration & Maintenance
    • Monitor queue depths, channel status, and system performance
    • Manage message flow and resolve message build-ups
    • Perform regular health checks and system audits
    • Apply patches, updates, and version upgrades
    • Maintain message retention policies and archiving strategies
    • Configure dead letter queues and error handling
  • Security Management
    • Implement authentication and authorization controls
    • Configure Channel Authentication Records (CHLAUTH)
    • Manage user access and permissions
    • Set up SSL/TLS certificates for secure communications
    • Ensure compliance with security policies and standards
    • Conduct regular security audits
  • Performance Tuning
    • Monitor system performance metrics
    • Optimize queue manager and channel configurations
    • Tune memory and resource allocation
    • Analyze logs and identify bottlenecks
    • Implement performance best practices
    • Capacity planning and forecasting
  • Troubleshooting & Support
    • Diagnose and resolve connectivity issues
    • Investigate message delivery failures
    • Analyze error logs (AMQERR01.LOG, FDC files)
    • Provide 24/7 on-call support (as required)
    • Work with application teams to resolve integration issues
    • Escalate complex issues to IBM support
  • Backup & Recovery
    • Implement backup strategies for queue manager data
    • Perform disaster recovery testing
    • Document recovery procedures
    • Maintain business continuity plans
    • Restore queue managers and configurations when needed
  • Documentation & Reporting
    • Create and maintain technical documentation
    • Document standard operating procedures
    • Generate performance and availability reports
    • Maintain configuration management databases
    • Track incidents and change requests
  • Collaboration
    • Work with development teams on integration requirements
    • Coordinate with network teams for connectivity issues
    • Participate in architecture and design discussions
    • Provide guidance on messaging best practices
    • Support application deployments
