FLEET & EQUIPMENT TOOLING SPECIALIST

SUMMARY

The Tooling Specialist plays an essential supporting role within the Fleet & Equipment (F&E) Tooling function, working directly under the Tooling Manager to assist in the implementation of tooling programs, inventory management systems, and on-site training and oversight across solar construction projects. This position reports to the Tooling Manager, or another management personnel that the company may designate. This position is located at the Ankeny, IA Fleet and Equipment offices and working hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm or 9:00am to 6:00pm local time, unless otherwise specified by management. This position is expected to travel up to 30% as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the Tooling Manager in the planning, rollout, and ongoing implementation of tooling programs across all assigned solar construction projects.
  • Travel to project sites as needed to provide hands-on training to Tool Room Coordinators on tooling procedures, inventory systems, and program standards.
  • Provide oversight and quality assurance of the tooling program during site visits, ensuring compliance with F&E standards and SOPs.
  • Serve as the primary daily point of contact for on-site Tool Room Coordinators, addressing questions, resolving issues, and escalating matters to the Tooling Manager as appropriate.
  • Lead and support the implementation of inventory management systems (including Sitesense) at the project level, ensuring accurate and consistent use across all sites.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining standardized tooling lists, inventory records, and tracking logs for all assigned projects.
  • Assist in managing tooling and test equipment certifications and safety records, including electrical PPE certifications; flag upcoming expirations to the Tooling Manager.
  • Ensure all tool room activities comply with health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Stay current on changes to tooling products, materials, and program requirements; communicate any impacts to site personnel.
  • Promote and model best-in-class safety practices across all activities.
  • Maintain regular attendance in accordance with company policy and supervisory expectations.
  • Adhere to the Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct, and all Company Policies and Procedures.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Office, and Outlook.
  • Exceptional organizational, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Capability to interact with leadership cross-culturally, both within and outside the organization.
  • Strong team player with a high degree of professionalism.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Willingness to travel as required.

Required Experience

  • Experience Operating warehouse or jobsite forklifts

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with database systems and software.
  • Experience in Logistics, tooling, or Inventory Management.
  • Bilingual
  • Experience working in a warehouse environment.
  • Previous experience managing tools
  • Construction experience, Solar experience is preferred

 

EXAMPLES OF PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  • Able to walk or move continuously while carrying 50 lbs. of tools and/or materials. It is recommended to get assistance to lift items over 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time
  • Must be able to work extended hours on your feet on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel, etc.)
  • Requires repetitive movement

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Regular professional, Construction shop and Worksite setting.
  • Noise level ranges from low to moderate (if in office setting)
  • Noise level ranges from moderate to high (if on construction worksite)
  • Under the Office Mobilization Plan (OMP) policy, the role may transition to an onsite or hybrid arrangement, as determined by business needs and the Head of Department
