Job Summary:
Pura is a company dedicated to redefining fragrance through innovative technology and design. As a Staff Data Scientist, you will be responsible for building and maintaining predictive models that support product development and business intelligence, while driving data science initiatives from inception to execution.
Responsibilities:
• Building and maintaining predictive models to power Pura's product, business intelligence, and decision-making.
• Prototyping and building production-ready models that can be integrated into Pura’s software systems.
• Leading complex data science initiatives when faced with ambiguous problems.
• Turning open-ended business questions into well-defined analyses, models, and experimentation plans that deliver real impact.
• Driving projects end to end — from data acquisition and validation through feature engineering and the development of reusable data assets while maintaining high standards for data quality and integrity.
• Explaining technical concepts clearly to stakeholders at all levels.
Qualifications:
Required:
• 5+ years of experience in data science or a related field
• Expert SQL and Python proficiency
• Strong background in causal inference statistics
• Experience with A/B testing frameworks and experimental design
• Experience with cloud data warehouses (we use BigQuery)
• Experience building batch-style inference workflows
• Experience with containerization and Infrastructure as Code
• Track record of leveraging LLMs to streamline exploration, iteration, and communication of data-driven insights
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to data quality and reliability
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively across cross-functional teams
Preferred:
• Experience with real-time or near-real-time inference systems
• Familiarity with streaming data processing technologies (e.g., Apache Kafka)
• Experience applying data science to molecular or chemical data
