Football asks students to do more than learn plays or improve their physical skills. It asks them to show up consistently, respond to coaching, work through adversity, and understand that their choices affect everyone around them. The adults who coach them help shape those lessons. A strong assistant coach notices the student who needs encouragement, reinforces expectations when the work becomes difficult, and helps every athlete understand what it means to contribute to something larger than themselves.
The LHS 5th Assistant Football Coach joins an established program grounded in accountability, relationships, student growth, and pride in representing Lakeside High School. Working alongside the Head Coach and coaching staff, this position helps provide the consistent instruction, supervision, and support student-athletes need to grow safely and successfully. It is an opportunity to teach football while also helping young people develop confidence, resilience, discipline, and the habits of a dependable teammate.
Salary: The salary range for the position is: Min. $2,888 to Max. $3,850. Salary placement will be at Step 0 of the Coaches Agreement unless documentation of experience is received per the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Nature and Scope of Position:
The Lakeside High School 5th Assistant Football Coach supports the Head Football Coach and coaching staff in the instruction, supervision, safety, and development of student-athletes participating in the high school football program. The position assists with practices, competitions, equipment, team operations, and student eligibility expectations while promoting accountability, sportsmanship, positive relationships, and compliance with district, league, and WIAA requirements.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Assist the Head Football Coach and coaching staff with the operation of the Lakeside High School football program.
  • Support the team or program level assigned by the Head Football Coach and Athletic Director.
  • Help maintain a structured, student-centered program aligned with district values and expectations.
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, sportsmanship, respect, and responsible decision-making.
  • Build positive relationships with student-athletes and support their development on and off the field.
  • Assist with planning and conducting practices that emphasize skill development, physical conditioning, preparation, and safe participation.
  • Instruct student-athletes in the skills, techniques, rules, and strategies necessary to participate successfully in football.
  • Provide consistent supervision during practices, competitions, team activities, and assigned travel.
  • Reinforce team expectations and address concerns in coordination with the Head Football Coach.
  • Model and encourage appropriate conduct, good sportsmanship, and respect for teammates, opponents, officials, and spectators.
  • Help communicate eligibility requirements, participation expectations, and team rules to student-athletes.
  • Prioritize student safety and follow required concussion, sudden cardiac arrest, emergency-response, and injury-reporting procedures.
  • Communicate regularly with the Head Football Coach regarding practices, competitions, student development, injuries, and program needs.
  • Follow WIAA, league, district, school, and athletic department rules and regulations.
  • Maintain required certifications and complete all mandatory trainings.
  • Assist with the distribution, collection, inventory, upkeep, and appropriate use of uniforms and equipment.
  • Help ensure facilities, fields, equipment, and team areas are used safely and appropriately.
  • Maintain records and documentation as assigned by the Head Football Coach or Athletic Director.
  • Communicate professionally with students, families, coaches, administrators, officials, and district staff.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the position as assigned by the Head Football Coach or Athletic Director.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification or the ability to obtain certification before the beginning of the season.
  • Ability to complete all required coaching and district trainings, including:
    • Concussion Management Training
    • Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Training
    • WIAA-required coaching education and clock hours
    • District-directed training, including applicable Vector training
  • Ability to meet Washington State Patrol and FBI fingerprint-clearance requirements.
  • Knowledge of effective and safe football coaching techniques and student-athlete development.
  • Knowledge of football rules, fundamentals, techniques, and strategies.
  • Ability to follow the direction of the Head Football Coach and work collaboratively as part of a coaching staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and administrators.
  • Commitment to student safety, good sportsmanship, accountability, and positive relationships.

  • Successful experience coaching or participating in football at the high school, collegiate, club, or comparable competitive level.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach football skills and provide constructive feedback.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, encourage, and build positive relationships with young athletes.
  • Demonstrated ability to reinforce team expectations and contribute positively to an established coaching staff.
  • Demonstrated commitment to developing confidence, resilience, responsibility, and lifelong character traits in students.
