Job description

Job description:

Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Technician

Location: Swedesboro, NJ 08085

Pay: $40–$41/hr + shift differential

Schedule: Hiring for 2 shifts

2nd Shift: 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM

3rd Shift: 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM, Tuesday–Saturday, Sunday and Monday off

We are hiring an experienced Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Technician for a high-speed food manufacturing facility in Swedesboro, NJ.

This role is for someone who can do more than basic maintenance. We need a technician who understands how mechanical and electrical systems work together and can troubleshoot equipment from the sensor level all the way through PLC inputs/outputs, VFDs, motors, controls, and production equipment.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working on live production equipment, identifying root causes, and getting machines back up safely and correctly.

What You’ll Be Doing

Troubleshoot electrical and control-related failures on production equipment to reduce downtime.

Diagnose PLC input and output issues, including sensors, photo eyes, prox switches, limit switches, safety circuits, and field devices.

Troubleshoot and support VFDs, including Allen-Bradley PowerFlex drives and other AC drive systems.

Identify whether a failure is mechanical, electrical, controls-related, or a combination of all three.

Troubleshoot motors, starters, contactors, overloads, relays, control wiring, power supplies, and machine circuits.

Work with electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems in a high-speed manufacturing environment.

Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, control documentation, and equipment manuals.

Perform preventive, scheduled, and corrective maintenance on production and plant equipment.

Support plant systems such as air, water, steam, refrigeration, HVAC, and related utilities as needed.

Document work accurately in the maintenance system and communicate issues clearly across shifts.

Follow all safety, GMP, food safety, and plant maintenance procedures.

What We’re Looking For

Strong hands-on troubleshooting experience with industrial production equipment.

Ability to troubleshoot PLC inputs and outputs at the machine level.

Experience troubleshooting sensors, photo eyes, prox switches, limit switches, and other field devices.

Experience with VFDs, especially Allen-Bradley PowerFlex drives.

Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including 24VDC controls, 120VAC controls, motors, starters, and power distribution.

Mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand how conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, chains, belts, motors, and driven equipment tie into electrical issues.

Ability to read electrical schematics and use a multimeter correctly.

Experience with pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.

Ability to work safely during production and downtime.

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Preferred Experience

Rockwell / Allen-Bradley PLC experience.

Siemens or Mitsubishi experience.

Servo drive troubleshooting experience.

Experience in food manufacturing, bakery, packaging, or high-speed production.

Experience with preventive maintenance systems.

Familiarity with P&IDs, electrical single-line diagrams, and instrument loop drawings.

Compensation

Hourly Rate: $40–$41/hr

Shift Differential: $1.50/hr where applicable

Why This Role

This is a strong opportunity for a technician who enjoys real troubleshooting, not just changing parts. If you understand that electrical and mechanical problems often overlap, and you know how to chase a problem from the PLC input to the sensor, drive, motor, and machine, this role is a strong fit.
