Job Summary:
PlanIT Group is seeking an Applications Database Analyst for their Federal customer in the Washington, DC area. The role involves analyzing business requirements, designing efficient database solutions, and ensuring data security while collaborating with stakeholders and team members.
Responsibilities:
• Analyze and translate business requirements into efficient database designs that meet the data needs of the organization and align with the business goals and processes.
• Create conceptual, logical, and physical database models using tools like ERD diagrams to depict a visual representation of the organization's data and how it relates to the business requirements.
• Utilize common database design patterns to solve recurring design problems.
• Utilize common data integration techniques to consolidate data from multiple sources into a cohesive and consistent dataset.
• Utilize normalization principles to reduce redundancy and improve data integrity.
• Implement indexing techniques to optimize query performance and data retrieval.
• Use data security best practices to enforce data privacy and protect sensitive information.
• Design database that can scale horizontally or vertically to handle increasing workloads.
• Work closely with stakeholders, developers, architects, and other team members to ensure the database design meets the project requirements.
Qualifications:
Required:
• 5+ years’ experience in designing large and complex IT solutions in large organizations.
• Strong leadership and team-building skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with a group of high performing individuals as well as Leadership.
• Proficiency in database management systems like MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc.
• Strong understanding of database concepts, normalization, indexing, and query optimization.
• Knowledge of data modeling concepts and tools to design database structures, entities, relationships, and data flow diagrams.
• Ability to troubleshoot database issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions to optimize database performance and data integrity.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to analyze data, identify patterns, and make data-driven recommendations.
• Strong command of SQL (Structured Query Language) for querying, manipulating, and managing data within databases.
• Familiarity with database administration tasks such as performance tuning, backup and recovery, security management, and user access control.
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members, stakeholders, and business users, and to translate technical concepts into non-technical terms.
• Must be able to obtain a Position of Public Trust Clearance.
• Pass both a client mandated clearance process to include drug screening, criminal history check and credit check.
• All candidates must be a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident only.
• Candidate must have lived in the United States for the past 5 years.
• Cannot have more than 6 months travel outside the United States within the last five years. Military Service excluded.
Preferred:
• A degree from an accredited College/University in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or a related field is preferred.
• Knowledge/experience with Agile Methodologies.
• Knowledge/experience of SDLC practices.
• DevSecOps, Secure Coding practices, and the Solutions Development Framework (Docker, Jenkins, GitLab).
• Experience with Cloud architecture, design, and development.
• Knowledge of business process re-engineering principles and processes.
• Change Management and Configuration Management (VersionOne, ServiceNow, etc).
• Application Lifecycle Management (ALM).
