Job description

Position Summaryย 

The Professional Engineer (PE) is a vital component of a team that oversees the operation and maintenance of the wastewater conveyance system (System). The System includes several hundred miles of large diameter gravity and pressure pipelines; as well as over 20 high capacity lift stations.ย  The PE acts as the project manager for special projects and studies in the System. They are also responsible for quality control review of System projects managed by the engineering department. Furthermore, they investigate challenges and offer solutions to optimize operation of the System.ย 

Job Responsibilitiesย 

  • Identifies, prioritizes, develops, and manages projects involving the operation, maintenance, rehabilitation, and optimization, and improvement of wastewater facilities including an extensive condition assessment program.ย 
  • Participates in design review, design meetings, studies, and construction phase activities associated with capital improvement projects managed by the engineering department.ย 
  • Reviews studies, plans, specifications, submittals, and change orders prepared by others for completeness and accuracy as a quality control function.ย 
  • Acts as a liaison between wastewater system operations and other departments like engineering, planning, maintenance, instrumentation, and purchasing.ย 
  • Prepares and/or coordinates preparation of bid packages for projects funded through operations.ย ย 
  • Monitors and evaluates wastewater flows.ย 
  • Collects and compiles System information for distribution to the engineering department and outside entities.ย 
  • Evaluates wastewater technologies, processes and equipment for potential use in wastewater projects and maintains wastewater conveyance system operations preferences list.ย ย 
  • Conducts field studies and tests to optimize operation of the System.ย ย 
  • Cultivates an environment of Integrity, Trust, Respect, Unity, Safety, and Teamwork.ย 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience:ย 

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or other related field received from an accredited college or university.ย 
  • Experience utilizing engineering design and project management software.ย 
  • Requires a valid Texas Driverโ€™s License.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilitiesย 

  • Professional Engineer licensed in the State of Texas.ย 
  • Possess effective written and verbal communication skills.ย 
  • ย Possess knowledge and practical experience in the principles and practices of wastewater systems and project management. Possess the ability to work independently, identify opportunities, complete tasks efficiently, and guide projects to completion.ย 

Environmental and Physical Working Conditionsย 

Driving a District vehicle for business wil be required.ย  Employees required to drive as part of their job duties are responsible for maintaining a current, valid, and vehicle - appropriate driver' s license of their resident state.

Moderate physical labor and considerable mental attention required with some eyestrain.ย  Generally desirable conditions with some outside visits to work-sites with varying environmental conditions.ย  Considerable time can be spent working with and viewing a computer screen.ย  Considerable time viewing plans, specifications and reading reports and correspondence.ย  Time will be spent at construction sites, traversing rough terrain, climbing stairs and ladders to access structures.ย  Equipment used includes calculators, computers and some field survey equipment.ย
