About the Role:

The School of the Arts at Northern Kentucky University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Choral/Vocal Music Education at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2027. We seek a dynamic and collaborative educator committed to excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in music education and choral music education, which will include methods, pedagogy, supervision of student teachers, and other courses in the candidate's area of expertise.
  • Teach undergraduate courses in a secondary area of expertise. Courses may include: applied lessons, music history, music theory, ensemble conducting, or aural skills.
  • Coordinate the choral music education program and collaborate with faculty across performance and education areas.
  • Engage in recruitment efforts for the music education program through fostering
  • positive relationships with public school music educators and their programs.
  • Demonstrate a trajectory of active research, scholarship, and/or creative activity.
  • Participate in service to the program, college, and profession.
  • Advise undergraduate students and contribute to curriculum development.
Required Qualifications:
  • PhD, DME, or DMA in Music Education (ABD considered).
  • Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in K-12 choral music.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
  • Record of scholarship that includes an established or emerging portfolio of publications and/or presentations at state/regional/national conferences.
  • Familiarity with current pedagogy, trends, and technologies in music education.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supervising student teachers or coordinating field experiences.
  • Collegiate-level teaching experience.
  • Record of scholarly activity in music education.
