Key responsibilities include leading a team of engineers and application specialists, driving incident response and root cause analysis, managing complex integrations across the MyEyeDr. ecosystem, and assessing the downstream impact of vendor releases. As a leader, you will leverage your technical expertise to provide guidance on complex engineering challenges, champion observability and reliability, and contribute to architectural and strategic planning.
This position reports to Engineering Manager, Corp & Field Applications & Product Engineering, this is a hybrid remote role, offering a flexible work arrangement out of our Vienna, VA office, with an in-office requirement of two days per week.

You Will
  • Own end-to-end system stability for Encompass (POS), EEHR, and related field and clinical applications, acting as the primary technical authority during incidents.
  • Lead deep technical triage across database, application, infrastructure, network, and monitoring layers before escalating issues to vendors such as Eyefinity.

  • Assess vendor release impact across downstream MyEyeDr. systems including SSRS reporting, MyEyeDr-developed extensions, and business-critical integrations; coordinate proactive validation with internal teams.
  • Own and evolve the integration architecture between Encompass, EEHR, MyEyeDr-developed applications, and third-party platforms - including APIs, Windows services, message queues, service buses, and EDI-based integrations.
  • Establish and mature observability across field and clinical systems (metrics, logs, traces, synthetic monitoring, alerting) using tools such as Dynatrace, APM, and log aggregation platforms to reduce mean-time-to-detect and mean-time-to-resolve.
  • Partner closely with Eyefinity and other vendor engineering teams using a shared technical language to accelerate issue resolution and influence product direction.
  • Technically mentor and lead a team of engineers, application specialists, and QA members; establish delivery cadence and ensure high-quality delivery within budget.
  • Championing the needs of business and clinical stakeholders throughout the engineering lifecycle, ensuring that what is delivered achieves the business value and ROI objectives of each initiative.
  • Anticipate upstream and downstream impacts of changes and proactively identify risks; outline options, recommend solutions, and escalate as needed.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives across the entire lifecycle of engineering delivery - from design through deployment and post-deployment support - including knowledge transfer and training.
  • Work closely with PMO and Enterprise Architecture to align engineering execution with architectural standards and portfolio priorities, contribute to Architecture Review Board documentation and ongoing updates.
  • Lead onshore and offshore teams to ensure delivery with quality, predictability, and within budget.
  • Exercise sound judgment and decision making to maintain high levels of visibility and transparency to leadership, and to remove blockers and issues.
