Job description

Meta is seeking a Network Engineer to join our Site Services and Edge Network Services (ENS) Operations team with a focus on Outside Plant (OSP) infrastructure. In this role, you will support the deployment, integration, and ongoing operational health of OSP network infrastructure including long-haul fiber, metro fiber routes, conduit systems, and interconnection facilities across Meta's global network. You will work at the intersection of fiber optic transmission, physical layer systems, and route engineering to ensure reliable connectivity for hyperscale data center and backbone environments. Collaborating with network design, engineering, and cross-functional partners, you will help drive scalable OSP deployment strategies, resolve complex network incidents, and improve operational processes that underpin one of the world's largest and most dynamic network infrastructures.
Responsibilities
Support the deployment and integration of Outside Plant (OSP) network infrastructure across Meta's backbone network, including long-haul and metro fiber routes, conduit systems, splice points, and interconnection facilities
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, managed service providers, and third-party vendors to investigate and resolve complex OSP network incidents including fiber cuts, degradation events, and route outages
• Identify operational improvement opportunities across OSP deployment workflows, fiber maintenance processes, and support procedures to increase efficiency, reliability, and standards compliance
• Partner with network design and engineering teams to provide field-level feedback that informs future OSP route designs, fiber specifications, and scalability requirements
• Analyze operational data including fiber performance metrics, fault trends, and vendor performance to identify systemic issues and drive prioritized corrective actions
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of OSP asset records, fiber route documentation, splice records, and operational runbooks to support consistent and auditable network operations
• Collaborate with automation and tooling teams to identify opportunities for reducing manual operational tasks related to OSP monitoring and maintenance
• Provide technical guidance to external vendors and field technicians to direct fiber installation, splicing, testing, and repair activities in accordance with Meta's OSP standards
• Communicate clearly on project status, incident outcomes, and operational metrics to stakeholders across engineering, operations, and site services teams
• International and domestic travel may be required up to 25% of the time depending on business needs
Minimum Qualifications
• Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta
• Experience working with cross-functional teams and external vendors to execute OSP network deployments, fiber route builds, or incident resolution at scale
• 2+ years of experience deploying, operating, or supporting large-scale Outside Plant infrastructure including long-haul fiber, metro fiber networks, and optical transmission systems
• Experience analyzing operational datasets or metrics to identify trends, prioritize issues, and support data-driven decision making in a network operations context
• Experience troubleshooting and root-causing OSP network incidents including fiber cuts, splice failures, and optical signal degradation
• 2+ years of hands-on experience with OSP infrastructure and fiber optic systems, including OTDR testing, fusion splicing, fiber characterization, and route documentation
Preferred Qualifications
• Demonstrated use of AI tools to optimize operational workflows, automate documentation, or accelerate troubleshooting and root cause analysis
• Experience working within or alongside a Network Operations Center (NOC) environment, including managing against SLAs and contributing to continuous improvement programs
• Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
• Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
• Experience with optical transmission platforms and DWDM/CWDM systems in backbone or metro network environments
• Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
• Familiarity with OSP construction practices including conduit installation, aerial fiber deployment, underground fiber routes, and right-of-way considerations
